So I have a buddy whos dog got parvo (BLM 11 months old) and it has only been about 2 weeks since he was diagnosed. I have a 2 1/2 year old CLM and the kid bugs me everyday to go train with him. after researching how very contagious this virus is I am very sketchy about going. My dog is up to date on all shots but I would hate to spread anything to other dogs from being around the parvo dog.

What are your thoughts? How long would you wait or should I not be worried?

Did this kid's dog get his vaccines???

Pat
Yes, he says he got vaccinated about three months ago. The bad part about this is that he had his dog back from a trainer for 8 days when he started showing signs. from what I read parvo takes 7-10 days to show symptoms which means that he probably got it when the dog was with the trainer.
I know the trainer and he is somewhat careless about his kennels and it would not surprise me if that is where it came from.

Parvo is hugely contagious. So anything shared (field, bumpers, air space) can and does spread the virus.

I would wait a while after he is done with treatment before I trained with him. Its unfortunate because he's probably out in the same fields you will be with the dog. As will numerous other people and dogs.

Luckily he trains in the same place 99.9% of the time so I can avoid contact.
It is kinda frusterating because the kid does not care and acts like this is no big deal. This is also the second dog he has owned that has gotten Parvo so you would think that he would learn

If the pup was vaccinated properly as a puppy.... he'd not have gotten it, most likely NOR would he have needed to be vacc'd again so SOON. You mention he was vacc'd 3 mos ago? What the heck???? I'd not blame the trainer. Parvo requires a series of at least 2 vaccines to be fully immunized. If he only had 1 vaccine (...at way too old), well...

Are you SURE it's parvo and not kennel cough?????
Im sure its Parvo. He spent almost all last week at the vet being treated for it. I cant say for sure that he was vaccinated properly as a pup but the trainer required all vaccinations before training began so I know he got a fresh set of shots (which shouldnt have been needed if properly vaccinated as puppy). Im not fully blaming the trainer I was just looking at the number of days its been since he had been home and showing symptoms.

If you look at the articles at the right-hand side of the main screen, there is all sorts of updated information about the disease, spread, treatment, prevention, recovery, and even disinfection. You will probably find answers to most of your questions there. It is a fantastic resource! :)
