Any experts out there? We have a dog approx. 1 1/2 years old that is diagnosed with this. She has never been bred. We have no intentions of breeding her.

The vet recommends having her spayed. Is this the only (or best) option?

How different is this from a prolapsed uterus?

Thanks for your help

It is certainly not your only option, it is more correctly categorized as vaginal hyperplasia and is very different from a prolapsed uterus.

While it does have a tendency to reoccur the hyperplastic tissue can be surgically resected and bitches can be successfully bred and deliver normally.

But if you have no intentions of breeding a bitch I would definatly spay. Pyometra is a killer, which happens in un spayed bitches

Bridget-

Spaying/neutering should be undertaken with full disclosure of the risks and outcomes just as any other surgical procedure. It is coming to light that the literature is full of reasons why spaying may not be best solution even if a dog is not to be bred. There are increases in cancer for one.

Would you be passing this on to offspring or is it not a gene just something that happens?

Wow an honest question and more smart a$$ answers. You just don't give up do you? You want people to learn and yet you just can't help yourselves. Nice!
