What portable training props do use in your training?

I have a trio of artificial Christmas Trees I use as blind markers, hazards in marks, and in keyhole blinds?

white plastic garbage bags for texas rag decoys
tarps/towels for "layout blinds"
sometimes throw a spare crate on the trailer for "a dog stand"

I have what I think are a variety of pretty good grounds to use-"islands" of trees, haybales, etc., so I don't have any props (other than stickmen, chairs, etc), but...

...(& maybe this explains why Finn needs to be rescued by a good trainer!)-when we were doing no-no drills in the yard I used (among other things) a plastic kiddie pool! I know my neighbors thought I was nuts, but it was really something one day when I had that stupid little pool out at one of my training places. I put it out about 175 yards on a 300 yard blind & he knew it was something not to be flared! :)

Sorry Evan,

The graphic didn't open the first time. I also carry the stickmen. They can also be used for blind markers and goal posts by wrapping a green Christmas garland around them.

I forgot--I just was given a 9 feet long piece of 12 inch plastic pipe that is easy to move(light).

Evan,

10 or 12 what?

I also carry a bag of birs and the crate at times for scent work.

Dan
I don't have a real bird crate, but I have used a very small vari kennel w/ birds in it. I have used that on cross wind blinds.

But these things along w/ holding blinds, etc are the things I would think everyone has with them every time they train. I thought you were looking for unusual props. Now I'm embarassed about mentioning my kiddie pool!

Miriam,

Don't be redfaced about being creative!! I thought the kiddie pool was a great idea. How do you transport it?

Dan
"Creative"-that's nicer than what you could have said! :)

As for transporting it-it's a hard plastic but it bends & I just throw it in the back of the Jeep. I know it does sound silly, but I felt it served a purpose!

10 or 12 of the Stickmen pictured in my post. If you cannot see the image simply click refresh and it should show.

Miriam, does the dog have to go "through" the kiddie pool? I can imagine a hard charging dog landing in it and then proceeding to "surf" across the field:D:D:D

I use XXXL white shirts from the goodwill, and put balloons in them to make "Fat men" that kind of move in the wind... for flaring drills.

Do my eight and eleven yr old nephews qualify as props....if so they are utilized whenever possible

Evan,

It did come up the second time around. Where did you get those white ginger bread men?

Dan
Dan,

Those are called MARKSMen, and they're the best stickman anywhere. I don't distribute for them, but ordering information can be found on my site at http://rushcreekpress.com/page3allproducts.html . Scroll down below the DVD's and you'll see the picture I posted, along with contact information for Vince Benedetto, who makes them.

My most versatile prop is my floating island.
8x4 sheet of marine plywood attached to 2 blocks of styrofoam about 8"x18"x 48". The plywood is covered with dirt and planted with cover.
The island(s) can then be moved around and anchored in my training pond to create or extend points ,form channels...
Dogs learn early how to channel and not to "island hop".
