This morning after I let the pup out to do her business, I invited her up to cuddle. After she fell asleep, I noticed her shaking as if she was cold. I woke her up for a bit, so she could shake off her little dream and then let her be. I even covered her up with the blankets, just in case she was chilled. As soon as she fell back asleep again, and she was in the deep sleep, she was doing it again. (She does sleep hard) When she is up, she is perfectly normal, so I decided to see if she would do it again. She is having a nap right now and I notice once she is out she does it again.

What gives??

Busy little mind by the sounds of it.

Hey Margo!!! How he heck are you?? I thought it was puppy dreams too, but she is doing it every time she falls asleep. I checked her temp and its 102.8. What is normal for dogs?

I know when my old man hit 102+ they wanted me to hydrate him with sub-q fluids - he is 10 years old.....you might want to call your Vet, I'd definately watch her temp, make sure she is drinking water, eating, peeing and pooping normally....

With young pups and older dogs my Vet errs on the side of caution - I know with my FT dog who is not quiet 5 they were not as worried with 102, other than to make sure everything else was normal....

I don't think your situation warrents an E-room visit, but definately a call to your Vet for advice.....

Well, the potty business works just fine and she has a facination with the water dish as well, so she is getting her liquids and has eaten her breaky....I'll keep an eye on the temp though...so what is normal for a dog?
What can I do to bring it down and if she is getting the flu...how did she get it???

My lab has very active sleep. She will bark, growl, run, quiver, shake, move, whimper, and has been known to leave a rather bad smell in the room for a few minutes. She is a normal 3 year old as far as I can tell.

When mine did that I always told my mom or girlfriend that they were chasing ducks. Then I would start saying "get em" my first would really get with it. Have a boxer that sleeps in the room with me and my girlfriend and he starts barking and whimpering in his sleep so load that it wakes us up, and we have to wake him up to get him to stop!!!!

Sounds like I got worried for nuthin! Thanks everyone.
Hope so, Debbie! Fairly often when she's asleep, my Sadie (like the others mentioned here) will yip, whine, whimper, growl (and it's a great sounding, rumbling growl!), twitch her paws, jerk a little, even bat her eyes a bit. She can also be really difficult to wake up when she's into one of those really deep sleep patterns. And interesting, Harry...ever since I was a little one, I can remember it always being called "chasing rabbits" in our family, too!

Indy does that fierce sounding growl in his sleep too! I'm sure glad I've never heard it when he was awake. Makes you wonder what in the world is going on in those dreams to cause such a friendly dog sound like such a killer!

My Border Collie Springer mix does this every night. She barks, whines, whimpers, runs, shakes, growls, eye twitches, and is very hard to wake up. It is hilarious! She also hogs the bed!

The two older dogs do the growling, muffing, shake, rattle and roll thing, but she isn't making any noise...she just shakes like she is really cold and because it was alot different then the bigger dogs, I wanted your opinions. I"m gonna keep a close eye on her though, just in case. Probably take the temp again before she goes to bed.
thanks alot everyone!!!

All three of mine are noisy sleepers, especially after they've had an active day. Hubby is taking clm pheasant hunting today. I expect him to be extremely noisy tonight. the growling, yipping and twitching always wakes me up, but it sure doesn't seem to bother them.

I am doing fine, just down the road from you.....so to speak. If she is cold and not barking or whinning in her sleep I might wonder a bit. How old is she? If she was cold I would think she would be shivering while she is awake too.... never really saw them just shake in their sleep , there always seemed to be some noise to go with the dream.

Thanks for the replies everyone. She has since had her puppy dreams, but they were more like what I was used to seeing and hearing. There have been no more quivering episodes as if she was cold.

thanks again!!
