How good is this stuff? I am wanting to get my dog off of the 2 meds that he is on for heartworms and flea/tick and get him switched to just one. Is it worth the shot? I am wanting something that stays on him while he is in and out of the water, so something that is waterproof and actually works. So is revolution what I am looking for?

I have used Revolution with good success on my dog and cats.
x2, I just moved and inherited a flea problem with the new house. We have two adult labs, 11 4week old pups and a cat. The first dose was all it took to take care of the problem

I've seen Revolution work perfectly on some dogs and I've seen it work horribly. My experience, for what it's worth:

1 - Siberian Husky A - lived near a wooded area. Got covered with ticks even while on Revolution. Switched to a different topical after vet removed all ticks. Worked fine.

2 - Siberian Husky B - not in a wooded area, but it's the south, tons of mosquitoes. Got heartworms 2x while on Revolution. I quit using Revolution after that.

3 - Bichon Frise - owned by a friend of mine. Gave him Revolution for several years, never any problems. One dose of Revolution eventually caused him to become lethargic, then soon seizures, following by vomitting, paralysis, then death. This was over a 2-3 day period after administering the Revolution. They did an autopsy and ruled it was caused by the Revolution.

I don't use Revolution any more after these three personal experiences.

I've had great results with it. I doesn't work for ticks as its not supposed to. Dogs have been bitten by many mosquitoes and no heart worms.
With any topical, if you don't get it down to the skin its not going to work like it should. I usually wait a couple of days before water work.
Everyone that I know that uses it has never had any issues listed by the others.
With any medication some have reactions to it some don't, just like some people can take penicillan and some can't. We have 5 dogs and not one bad episode.

I agree and they admit themselves that less than 1% have digestive upset. I just wish they would note that in that "less than 1%" subset, some dogs die from the treatment. The vet we had do the autopsy said it wasn't the first death from Revolution that he'd seen. It won't be the last, I'm sure. I'm not against using it, I just make the personal choice not to because I don't want to find out if my dog is in the "less than 1%" that can die from a single treatment.

Oh, and it is supposed to treat tick infestations. Taken from their website: https://www.revolution4dogs.com/default.aspx?sec=Revolution

"With monthly dosing, Revolution® (selamectin) controls American dog tick (D. variabilis) infestations in dogs and puppies as young as 6 weeks. Ask your veterinarian about Revolution."

Revolution doesn't wash off, it actually penetrates the skin and enters the bloodstream! So although it is applied topically, it is not the same kind of topical treatment as Frontline (that stays topical) Not great in my mind, because if the animal has a bad reaction, you can't just wash it off. As a groomer, I have known of quite a few animals with bad reactions :( It seems to be pretty effective on fleas and lice, I have heard mixed reviews of how effective it is with ticks, and I have heard of several dogs contracting heartworm on it.

(No personal experience with it, I am glad to live somewhere where I don't have to deal with fleas, ticks or heartwom!)

I will do some more research on this now. It really worked well, but id rather have a dog with fleas than no dog to get fleas.
