What is the preferred method for determining the rotation in senior stakes. The rule states that the Judges determine the rotation.
2 series, start the second in the middle of the order. Want to mess with the handlers, start the second by reversing the order. IF you want a rotation. Not a requirement.

Rotation in a Senior stake, start second series halfway down the order. In reality a running order in Senior & Junior is only a suggestion. Those with Master dogs will run when they can to ensure the test as a whole runs smoothly. By rule the Master stake takes precedence.

Nothing gums up the logistics of a test worse than a marshal holding Master handlers at the Junior or Senior stakes.

By rule the Master stake takes precedence.

Help me find this in the rule book.
Thanks
Actually memory was pretty good. In general regulations "Due to the requirements and complexity of hunting situations at the different testing levels, running priority should be given to the highest level (Master)." Chapter 1 page 4

Any other questions?

Yes, why did you doubt yourself?
Cause my rule book was sitting beside my recliner.:D. I have never looked back & said "glad I didn't double check that". Can't count the times I messed up because I didn't.;)

I have read the AKC field trial regulations, AKC hunt test regulations and HRC hunt test regulations. It is very easy to quote the rule correctly but apply it to the wrong venue.

Taking precedence doesn't mean that the minor stakes must wait because the major stakes must run in order.
Dogs in every stake, even the Open, can and should be run out of order if it will result in a reasonable savings of time for the overall trial or test, or will alleviate an unfairness.

Too often, dogs are held at or sent to an upper HT or FT stake when there are plenty of other dogs already there that could be run, while the judges twittle fingers at the lower stakes waiting on dogs.

I believe Glenn is asking about all-age stakes as senior, rather than a Senior hunt test. My preference is to split the field in half for the marks. That way dogs that ran early on land marks do not run early on water marks (because dogs have been eliminated by the fourth series).

If I had a field of 40 dogs with starting dog being number 1, I would rotate 1, 11, 31, 21.

"Should" is the key word.
Yes. My favorite trials to run are the ones that run in order but keep the stakes moving as the rules allow for.

Also, the rotation Sharon described is the way I do it also. Split field by 4 and run the last split first on the WB & 3rd split first on WM.
