i guess it demonstrates the evolution of dog training, that anyone would ask that question in the first place. For the majority of my career it was all ear pinch. the only time we used the collar was for a difficult dog---kill-or-cure time so to speak. With the adjustable intensity levels the collars of today are a wonderful tool. However, i would caution inexperienced trainers to tread lightly with some of the new knowledge, not all dogs are capable of living up to the demands of some programs.
