Hey guys, I'm thinking of getting a pup to someday run in hunt tests or field trials. I was wondering if some of you field trial guys could tell me the name of some top studs to look for. (Lab) . I'm looking for a stud that has produced some winners. Thanks in advance :D

They have mothers, too...

Just sayin'

Although all of the above mentioned stud dogs are well proven.....Don't overlook the Jazztime line.

The Jazztime line just put a dog in top 5 for: 2008 High Point Open, Amateur and Derby Dog......Not too shabby.

And yes, the bitch has a LOT to do with it.

FC-AFC FORDLAND'S BORED OUT FORD 13 Titled Offspring

FC-AFC CREEK ROBBER 12 Titled Offspring

If I had a pick to breed my FC Merlyn IV female, I would probably choose FC-AFC Cody Cut A Lean Grade for the Lean Mac line breeding.

There are a lot of studs to choose from, but I also care about a good momma side too.

I have a 2 1/2 year old Chopper sired male. He is a litter mate to three dogs on this years derby list. Chopper also has sired several of the pups in the top 10. Bitch line is just as important. Look for a breeding that both dogs have produced dogs that can mark.
Good Luck

I think one of the best up and coming dogs is
FC-AFC Trumarcs Stormin Norman II.
Many titile including 2008 open finalist and 2008 Dog of the year. I may be a bit bias because i just recently purchased a female out of him and she is AWSOME. 3 mnths old performing 100+ yards retrieves. He is out of Cosmo. Check him out. But also some good studs is Dewey's Drake of the Moon. A yellow dog with a great resume

I think the mother of the pup is very important also, probably more than sire. I just don't know alot about the american lines of labs, I know about every line of british dogs there is but was wanting to try an american dog and see how I like them. I just want to do my homework before I before I make that investment . Thanks again for all the replies :D

Along with all the usuall suspects you might want to look at Wood Rivers Franchise (Shaq). He was a fianalist in last years Nationals and has won two opens this year in California. Really a nice dog and wonderful disposition.

I really like the FC/AFC-Wood Rivers Franchise pups that I've seen. We actually decided to breed a MH Cosmo bitch to him, and the pups are REALLY NICE. Smart, tractable, tough, hold no grudges, and can flat mark. There are plans to do a repeat in the fall.

I too agree that the bitch has LOTS to do with successful breedings. I'm not so sure that it's a given that the bitch has more to do with the success of the pups than the sire, but good bitches sure give you a better chance. The females in our Shaq litter look and act exactly like Shaq.

Find a litter that you like, and check out what the bitchline has done, competitively and previous pups. I would highly consider buying from a repeat breeding that has had success with the previous litter.

GOOD LUCK!!!
