I finally dropped way too much money on a pair of Costa - love them.

Use to wear Oakley's but kept loosing them <sigh> and figured I'd try something new.

FOM

Costas... top of the line. I have light eyes and am lost without my shades...cuts the glare to zero. I have the 580 lenses which are real glass and seem to crack a little easy, but I've heard the 400 lenses are plastic and a little more durable just less uv protection. I also have ordered mine off of Ebay for half of retail price.

On my second pair of Maui Jims and wouldn't have anything else. They seem to have the clearest lenses of any I've ever looked through.

Costa with the copper 580 glass... Love them - they really really cut the glare.

Maui Jim's are nice too - but Costa del Mar is so much cooler of a name.

The Kaenon's (is that right) are really nice too.

I think if you go with any of those you'll probably be real happy with them.

Heard good things about Native's too.

Well, after all these years of buying cheapos, I finally went ahead and took about 4 years' worth of Cabela's gift cards and bought a pair of Costa Del Mar - Harpoons. This is my first pair of sunglasses that I've ever paid over $20 for.

I was a little nervous dropping that amount on a pair of glasses sight-unseen. (other than the pictures on the Cabelas website).

I have a fly fishing trip coming up in a couple weeks and I hope to give them a test drive then, if not sooner.

Frankly, I'd have bought Oakleys or Ray Bans if not for some of the opinions posted here by folks who would know.

Thanks! Chris

For fishing, Costas are the best. For the fishing I do The vermillion or copper lens is best. I find 580s actually filter out too much. Can't see the redfish in less than clear water.

Chris - do yourself a favor and buy a set of Croakies Floating retainers, they are the funny looking band that fits over the ear pieces and will help your glasses to float should they fall off while you lean over to net that fish ;)

How are the gray lenses for this application, any idea? I ordered the gray. Most of my fishing will be in murky water, although the trip I'm taking first is likely to be pretty clear water with decent visibility down several feet.

I ask because I ordered the gray lenses.

I can probably change the order tonight, since I placed it after hours and they probably would not pack and ship it until tomorrow at the earliest.

I have worn Oakleys and Costas...I would not own anything other than Oakleys. The lens frame on the Costas give me a headache...I like the framelss lenses (lower frame anyway)!

The ones in the link are what I wear daily. On cloudy days I use my amber polarized lenses.

Chris, in the saltwater world the copper lens is better for inshore type fishing and the offshore guys seem to prefer the gray. I have always worn Smiths but the Costas are just as good.

Chris

And where would this fky fishin trip be takin place.

I was in canada one year fishing a trophy lake for pike.
The area was a long way for the outpost camp we were at.
A guide was required to help navigate to where these bibuns were.

That guy about got use drowned! he kept runnin over partiall submerged logs in the water. the motor was being run on "tilt",but i was really afraid he was gonna shear the prop off.

He didnt have glasses!
i started givin him hell for not havinglasses with him, he didnt understand what I meant.

he had never worn a pair of polerised sunglasses before.

I lent him a spare cheapo pair i had with me.

That Kid thought those thigs were the work of the Gods!

he couldnt believe you couls see the fish come chasin after the lure 30 feet from the boat.

it was funny to watch him keep taking the glasse of his head, then put them back on in amazment of what he could see.

As I left, I gave him that pair of glasses. Youda thought I has bought him a new car.

he had friends of his down aat the peeeeee eeer takin turns looking into the water with them!

The things we spoiled ones take for granted!

have fun on your trip, but if you are secretly comming out here, and not taking Gooser with you..... well I might just throw a hissy fit!

Gooser,

We'll be going after smallmouth on a driftboat trip on a northern midwestern stream. It's quite a distance from Colorado.

I am really looking forward to it. I had a neck injury a couple months ago and it affected my arm. (what used to be my "good" arm!) It will be interesting to see how well I can work a flyrod. Two days back-to-back...can't wait!

Good Luck!!! Have FUN!!!!!

Lainee, have you lost your Costa's yet?

:p :p
