This morning we were training on a large sod farm we use regularly. There are several irrigation ditches that cross the fields. We were figuring out and getting ready for our first set up when my husband shouts and points across the field. There is a strange looking critter, not raccoon or possum, running along the bank of one of the ditches. The three of us walked over and as the guys were looking way down the field, I was at the close end of the ditch and saw a little brown head pop up. It was a mink pup! Evidently there is a litter in there and the larger one Ralph & Swinton saw was mom trying to "lead us away" from the den. How cool is that? I have never seen a mink around here and Swinton said it had to be 30 years or so since he had. We left them alone and went back and ran our training, but we kept seeing the momma walking sentry in the distance on that bank. I just wish I had had my camera:D

Maybe if the employment situation doesn't improve I can go into mink farming? What do you think, politically incorrect career?

Neat! Assume you will insure that your dogs give them wide berth, anyway, but will note that I once had a big Chessie I let kill varmits of all sorts (nutria rats, *****, possums, armadillos, feral cats and such) and the only things that were ever able to offer him significant resistance were mink.

You thinking about taking on PETA all by yourself, dog owner/trainer and fur trader...you will be # 1 on their hit list:lol:

Yes, I guess that was a bad post for our games. Sorry. But the minks were cool and I enjoyed seeing them.
