The making of a Judge; The requirements and do they need adaptation
In other threads people have described the pony show required of Judges to both become a judge and maintain the status. It is assumed that doing all of this will create a knowledgable Judging pool. However is it really doing that or just making it overly tedious for experienced people to judge. Should the requirements be change and how so. We'll add a poll because polls are fun
AKC HT requirements at this time paraphrased from the rule book which has way too much verbage
(1) Seminar: Attend an AKC Retriever Hunting Test seminar.
(2) Apprenticeship: at the level being judged.
(3) Senior/Master Test must judge at least twice at the testing level immediately below before they are eligible.
Maintaining One’s Ability to Judge:
(1) Second Seminar: within three years of attending the first seminar.
(2) Written Test: After test every four years and pass the test with a score of 90% or better
(3) Must remain an Active Judge: An individual must judge at any level at least once every four (4) years to maintain eligibility.
(4) Must Remain an Active Handler: An individual must have handled a qualifying dog at the level to be judged or higher within seven (7) years
Judges Panel Qualifications:
(1) Judges in any division or level shall be six (6) at that level or higher.
(2) Handling Experience: 1 Judge shall have qualified a dog or dogs (5) times at the Master level. Junior/senior qualified a dog or dogs four (4) times either at the level being judged
Responsibility of Club to Look into all of this.
