Looking for advise - so her is the deal the two ponds I am training on are loaded with ducks and geese - When I try and train water marks the birds often head over to see what is up - my dog sees the birds and thinks plastic bumper or live bird hmmmm I think I will go after the live bird (see loves to go after cripples while hunting)

So I call her off the live bird - which see responds to but then the mark is all but forgotten - of course the birds hang around to taunt

Ideas?

Well other than upping your standards on ob, perhps training a little farther from the birds, and gradually working closer.

I think it's a blessing in disguise. I train several places with ducks and geese. You cannot ask for much better distractions. (when you and your dog are ready for them)

Last night I had a blind set up with a nesting Suzy ten yards short of the blind. (I did not know this at first ofcourse) My dog was about to break down into "hunt" mode as he aproached the cover on the far side of the pond. I blew the whistle a fraction of a second after the squaking hen came splashing out in front of him. The hen was making a scene, trying to draw the dog away. Drake gave me one refusal, but after a correction, he took the back he was givin. You just can't get better distractions than that. Have fun, good luck
