Have you ever been in a situation while judging where you were tempted to put a third bird out there? Say your judging a big derby with alot of good dogs, your third series didn't work out as planned and you have very little separation between your top 6 dogs, and the piece of property your given for the 4th just isn't going to get you the separation that you need to properly place the dogs. Options are to either really tighten things up and encourage switching or going back to an old fall, or doing something tricky, out of order flyer, throw your birds short to long, stuff most people don't like to see in a derby. Or put a third well placed bird out there if the time permits, and there is ample help. What would you prefer as a handler?
