What say you about the "Throw Ring" question at the NARC?

Just wondering about your opinions on the throw rings used at the NARC this year? Apparently some people are not thrilled they were going to be used without everyone knowing they were going to be used. Here's a partial quote from someone on Facebook who wants some clarification on what the rulebook says about "natural hunting conditions" as it pertains to throw rings:

"I have attempted, so far unsuccessfully, to obtain clarity as it pertains to the use of “throw rings” in Trials which, for the uninitiated, are a man-made containment apparatus placed in the water to ensure that a bird thrown in the water doesn’t drift."

I believe they were attached to those drainage pipes you can see in one of the photos on the NARC blog?

These would be great to use to anchor several bumpers down a shore. Does anyone know how to make them?

Maybe, as I said I have never seen hay used that way so I am just guestimating. One other convivence of pallets is most properties in Niland have them spread around in various spots so you can just pallet hop when deciding what to do and where to run from. Go stand on one and see if you like the look for the day.

If me and my JH dog can run off a pallet, those high powered AFC/FC dogs can do it. 😂😜😉

The counter to that is "it is a training aid, any dog can do a test if it starts off a pallet".
The exception would be the dogs that don't do the test because of the pallet.

Are the pallets covered, or left as a lattice?

Never actually ran off one myself and I would not if it was a typical pallet with spaced boards.
Some pallets do not have spaces between boards on one or both sides. I hope that is what people are referring to.

Ive been on committee just short of a dozen nationals working set up and into the week on most. Its enough to see the differences across the nation. It isn't much so, the few things that are different, make a difference. Ducks need a pop up as much as the liquor cabinet behind the lines. Which probably is a source of a fair amount of problems.

I’m opposed to arriving at a National and finding a man made something that is unique to the rest of the country. Pull it out, avoid it, or give fair warning in the premium. Anything less is bad form.

Personally, I find that throw rings can be practical to keep birds or bumpers in place, especially when there is power. Then I also understand that it can raise questions about the ”natural conditions" of the regulations.
