depends on the level. some guys like to start at the senior level so it may take a bit longer to get the dog ready i have seen 8 month old dogs pass the senior and 5 year olds fail the junior so age isnt as much an issue as the level of training experience

....competent at the next level up from what they are being tested.
ah that ain't no fun... no "pucker factor"

we started seniors in the spring I was reasonably sure he would pass

we finished that fall with 5 out of 5 passes

we got better as we went along

we started master the following spring with minimal additional training...

so far we are clean for three passes but who knows what the last two will hold this spring

we just began brushing up our obedience work after hunting season and running some blinds...

we're getting better as we go along

no "right" age... when you think you and the dog can get it done, go for it. worse that can happen is to fail and expose some weaknesses to train on.
