I have a 10 wk old lab pup which for the last 2 weeks has stayed inside in a crate while I'm working. My schedule is very flexible but there are times where I may not make it back for 5-6 hours to let him out. He has peed in his crate a few times, that I know of and I do not want that to be a habit. So I have a few other options, but I was trying to avoid putting him outside so early while were still having some 30 degree days (which may not be that cold to dogs anyways).

So here are some options and Id appreciate the feedback.

I have a enclosed shop brick walled that has about an 8x10 area where the cement is lower than the rest of the shop, where I could put him in a chain link pen but would not be the easiest to spray off, unless I did some work.

On the outside of the shop there about 8x12 that is a covered with 2 sides open to our yard, which is also cement and would spray off real easy. And I would do the same and put an appropriate size chain link pen for him to stay in.

There are also areas of the yard I could place him in where he could get sun/shade, but still be in the chain link pen. but would not be on cement.

ORRRR keep him inside and hopefully he starts holding it longer? I hate to do that but I also do not want him barking all day since we have close by neighbors. He has done pretty well at night, but I'm still getting up once a night to let him out to pee, which I'm ok with but not sure if thats bad or good thing to make habit of.

Also, after he comes back from training he will be an outside dog, as of right now unless my wife has a change of heart and thinks she can handle a large dog inside. (I've always had outside dogs so it doesnt bother me one bit)

make sure its an inclosed crate and fits the size of the dog. if they have too much room in the crate they tend to potty more in it. if its open wire crate it doesnt feel closed up so they potty more often in it.. keep them on a reutine schedule everyday... 5 to 6 hours isnt that bad imo..

Get 2 exercise pens and connect them, potty box, bed, toys you can put an open crate in the pen.

How big of a potty box? What do you use for litter?
I use the shavings we use for the horses, since I raise the litter they are exposed to it from an early age in the whelping pen. For a single pup I have a rectangle box made with 2 x 4s that is about 2 feet wide and 3 feet long. My current 8.5 month old still has it and uses it on days when he cannot be let out in a timely fashion.
Really need an indoor/outdoor run, but no way to make something like that where we are.

There are all kinds of containers and fillings. I didn't have lucky with pellets. I use rough pine shavings. like for horses. I use a low can litter pan and next to it a big farm utility plastic pan. What they do is pee in the low litter pan and learn to jump in the big utility pan to poop.
