No Special Inducements.
A hunt test-giving club
which accepts an entry fee other than that published in its
premium list or entry form, or in any way discriminates
between entrants, shall be disciplined. No club or member
of any club shall give or offer to give any owner or handler
any special inducements, such as reduced entry fees,
allowances for board or transportation or other incentive
of value for a certain number of entries or shall give or
offer to give in consideration of entering a certain number
of dogs, any prizes or prize money, except the officially
advertised prizes or prize money, which prize money shall
be for a stated sum or a portion of the entry fees. Except a
club, at its discretion, may allow for a reduced entry fee for
dogs handled by juniors. A junior handler is someone less
than 18 years of age on the first day of the test.

Prize money at a HT .. any one ever see this ? popping of the corn regards..............

The AKC HT rule book is the source.

This is a current Reg? I guess I better read the booklet more closely. First time I ever heard clubs could offer reduced entry fees to Juniors and I did not know that clubs could offer prize money. Prize money? Have never heard of it for an AKC field event be it a hunt test or a field trial.

Here is how I interpret this rule: Johnny is a HT Chair, he wants to fill ALL Stakes so the Club makes mucho dinero. Johnny calls all his Pro friends and they all agree to bring truckloads of dawgs because Johnny enticed them with $10 off each entry for any dawg they entered after the third.

Johnny BAD! That's a NO NO! Johnny shall be disciplined!

As for ACTUAL prize money at a Hunt Test....Good Luck with that Dream!

As far as reduced fees for Junior handlers (under 18) two Clubs in New England are offering "refunds" of $15-20 at the test, which I feel is a great way to encourage the youngsters.

I think that perhaps the reduced fee for junior handlers might be an attempt to get mom/dad to front the the entry fee for a junior that might otherwise not be participating due to the expense involved. Lower entry fee for juniors= more parents willing to pay the fees for kids to participate.

Surprisingly it says virtually the same thing in the Field Trial rules. I thought I had seen it before and I just looked it up...

Page 9 near the top, in a book dated May 2009.

I guess there must have been prize money at one time or they're covered if someone does it in the future.

Do you want to talk about it?

apparently I will be on the lookout for a lady with a riding crop............. oh , wait , I already do that :)

I know with some clubs that put on AKC agility trials, they offer coupons to their volunteers for free or reduced entry fees for their next trial. Great way to encourage people to volunteer! Hopefully that is what the rule is getting at. And if that's they case I'm not sure why AKC would care so long as they get their cut.

I'd like to talk about the reduced entry fees for Juniors. I'd like to know how many clubs out there offer it and how reduced is their fee.

Hi Helen,

Shoreline has a reduced entry fee for junior handlers (under 18 YOA). They must pay the full fee at the time of entry, but we cut them a check for $15 on the day of the test.-Paul

I have never heard of this before either and have been looking into it a little bit. I just talked to EE and they do not have a way of setting up a handler's fee for entering over the website. However she did tell me that we could arrange anything we wanted to charge for Jr Handler's but that they would have to mail it in. I am looking into it for our club, I would like to see a $20-25 fee which would cover the cost of that bird and a ribbon. Has anyone else seen it done anywhere?

Maybe the BOD approves paying for the entry. Kid sends/mails in entry(money and needed information) which is deemed appropriate and club does the entry on EE?
