i am headed out on a 5 day training trip at the beginning of next month, going to be doing a lot of training and in different areas. will be training my lab and Brittney for both upland and waterfowl.

I planning on taking some live birds, right now it will be mallards and quail unless i can find some chucker locally before them. what do i need to do with these birds to keep them healthy throughout the trip. I will be shooting then throughout the trip so there will be some alive the until the last day.

I know they will need water but what about food? Will i need to keep them feed the whole trip? any special care that i need to take into account?

Better keep 'em out of the wind when traveling and in the shade all the time...and yes they need to eat.

Interesting. I figured that since 99% of folks strap their bird crates to the top of the chassis mounts they liked the wind in their feathers. I guess not?

I'm guessing the Quail might have an opinion before they die on the topper. ;-)

Eventually the Quail will get verrryyy quiet and the ducks will stack them upfront of the box to break the wind.

I didn't see the quail. I don't guess they would last long at all doing a Mitt Romney they are delicate creatures. But ducks? They seem to travel frequently on top of trucks. Is it really an issue for them?

lol...I hear ya. I've never transported any birds (ducks or otherwise) that didn't have a wind block. The OP hasn't told us what he's driving or at least I don't know if this is P/U bed or inside a Suburban. 5 days is a long time on the road. Weather, road wind, temps, heat, type of crate, bird separation...would think a lot of things might matter to the condition of the birds over 5 days not to mention the humane treatment of such.
