I've got a blf that will be 2 in November and she is an HRCH and SH. she has never given me in real issues and been very easy to train. In the last week she has started not retrieving multiples. She will take off after the go bird But when it comes to the second and third mark all bets are off. Most of the time she does get the second mark. When she returns she will look out at the next mark but when I say her name she will take off and go a few feet and spin around and come back or not go at all. I train at Qual distances for the most part but she will do this at shorter distances as well. She does it on land and water. I'm signed up to run master the next three weekends and up until this had no worries. Any body had similar issues with a dog and found things to bring them out of it. I have run singles and then run it as a triple with same outcome. I run a double and then add one for a triple and same outcome. When she does go she is on fire. Throwing dirt. She loves to retrieve. Any insight or ideas would be wonderful. Thanks.

Do you train with gunners visible in White or hidden?

She does it with white and without. It started with the white in the field so I took it out but the problem still occurs. She shouldn't be coming into heat but who knows. When she no goes I've tried a little of everything. I've just thrown the marks again and may still get the same result. Sometimes I can keep lining her up and get her to go and have sent her on back just to get her to go. I can't really tell if she has just forgotten the marks or what. I can't believe she has. I can hand throw 5 bumpers and she will pick up all 5. All these marks are off bumper boys and if I use the bumper boys at pretty short distances she nails all 3.

We have a dog in our training group that did this, didn't matter if it was a HT setup or a FT set up with all stand out guns, the would always no go on the last bird, tons of go, and for certain he saw the birds, it more less became a habit or the routine, owner would try re marking, sweet talking the dog, sending on back ect. basically avoiding the problem. Finally I told him you have to break the cycle, he has to go no matter what I don't care where but go somewhere when sent. After a few times of heeling forward with a burn with increased pressure each time, hasn't had a no go in 3 monthes.

Haven't had to use the collar training her but she has been conditioned so I may give it a try. What's the thoughts on running singles to make sure she always goes on her name or do I keep with the triple. My plan right now is to shorten up things and keep with the triple and try to change her habit back.

If she is not in heat, then maybe something else inside is happening....

I don't believe you are following the same program most of us follow, the dog I described was well forced, and understood pressure and in turn understood that go means go. I don't think your dog would understand the pressure ( by your comments highlighted above) and it would make things worse when applied.

You would be wise to limit doing actual triples. Set up 3 marks but concentrate on singles (off multiple guns). Sprinkle in doubles and run longer as single last.
If you are not using collar at all it is likely you are not maintaining high standards and/or are not yet skilled at recognizing what or why your dog does things in training.
Running marks and blinds for the sake of them not so good. Obviously don't know particulars of what your doing.
The 3 basic rules are to enforce Go, Stop and Come.
When you do Force dog on Back remember you need to win. It could get interesting.

I should have said that better. I have used the collar for force purposes in training such as collar fetch and force to pile etc. I just have never had to use it in the field. up until this happened she could run Qual level marks and can still run Qual level blinds. She takes off on blinds like her marks. If I say back she will go. To be honest until this I had no real worries of these up coming master tests.

The comment "I can't really tell if she's forgotten the marks or what" is something that gets my attention. What cues are you giving the dog and what is your dog telling you at the line? In most cases when a dog returns and lines up for the next memory bird they are going to give you clear indicators of whether they remember and when they are ready to be sent. By the sounds of things you may not be reading the dog and may be sending her way too quickly and without the cues she needs to regain her picture. I could be wrong but I would slow way down and see if that helps.

Also, one other thought. Are you experimenting with loud sends on the long bird? Sometimes this behavior will happen for a while as the dog gets used to this.

My 2 cents:

She believes she just retrieved the one and only single out there. She is turning around to say "What do you want? I gave you the bird. I don't know of any other birds."

I would give her some pile work (doesn't have to be large piles) in addition to the above suggestions.
