Maybe this question has been asked but........why no more GM? Seems everyone I talked to wants another one and finding a used one is next to impossible. I love my GM especially here in ND with the wind and some very long blinds with Snow Geese.
Is there much or any difference between the Dallessee and GM? I hate both when I'm judging, the blow out my ear drums. Like I said earlier, the answer sounds quietest of all to my ear, but the dogs seem to hear it way out there. I think through training, they learn to hear different whistles and respond accordingly.

I personally like the GM more, I have the Dallessee as well just prefer the GM, but they are close.
. I also had used other whistles and my dogs take a bit to get used to new sound. I have one GM and god-forbid if something happens to one I have!

My understanding there is an ownership issue on the manufacturing of the product.

The Dallesasse and GM are very different. Different materials, different acoustics, different physics. The Dallesasse is a vortex-type whistle ala an Acme within a relatively soft plastic musket horn. The GM is a 3 tone whistle in an hard acrylic "D" shaped horn. The GM produces a lower, multi-frequency, train whistle sound which, based solely on its wavelengths should carry farther.

Both use the same acme 635 internally don't they?

It looks like the answer is similar to the mega, just without the pea?

Yes, it is surprisingly effective for its looks. Very basic unassuming whistle. In my bag I have two main lanyards, my main one has a Dallessee and Answer, my spare is a Dallessee and Green Monster. Additionally, I have spare Dallessee's, black Mega's, clear Mega's and a few Answer's.

I used black, then clear plastic Mega's from 1992 to about 2009, then tried the Green Monster for a couple years but didn't like it, switched to the Dallessee for a while before settling on the Answer. Keep in mind both Ed and I, and I assume a number of other posters are running all age blinds every weekend, so we are seriously trying to maximize our effort.

Thanks John. The Mega used to be good enough. I'm not quite sure what distance all age blinds are. I assume 200+? When I started I was afraid of doing long blinds. Now, we do so many 150+ yard blinds in training that the darn short ones worry me more! The Mega used to be enough. I've noticed with these longer distances that I don't think it's quite doing it. The reason I think that, is one of the pros I train with uses the Dallahassee and at those distances the problem is less. Years ago I could have blamed it on my whistling skill, but that's not the case any longer. Could occasionally be a dog blowing me off, but not consistently.

Timely topic. Thanks! After the 8 inches of snow leaves we will be back at it.

There are 2 holes on the bottom of the megaphone where the ring on the whistle that attaches to your lanyard is located. Some air undoubtedly escapes through the holes, sealing them with silicone or other material directs all of the air out the megahone.

Sue, buy one of each and see how you like them. Some people cut a little strip of clear tubing and glue it on the mouth piece to make it easier to clamp your teeth on. Go 400 yards out in the field and have your training partner blow all the whistles to hear for yourself. Bear in mind that dogs hear different than humans. One more thing, your dog is used to listening for the pros whistle and it will take some time before he or she responds well to a new sound.

All age blinds are typically 350-450 yards, right up against the limit of sight and sound for dogs and humans. Even with the best whistle, you will encounter conditions, running water, running into the wind, dog running thru tall grass, where the dog can't hear a whistle regardless. Then there are situations, where the dog decides he can't hear your whistle.

Like Carol's whistle (but in basic black :) ) VERY easy to blow, very loud and the sound carries WAY out there!! I will never use anything else.

Yes they do, $5.49 at GDS. One reason I like the GM better is when i break the whistle from biting on it too hard, its much easier to chang out in the GM than the Dallesasse, it can be done but its a major pain in the ass to change one out of a Dallesasse.

You young guys and your tough teeth!

If you haven't tried it, you might want to get some castration bands at your local farm store and wrap a couple around the whistle end. It cushions your teeth, cushions your whistle, and helps give a nice air seal. I've gotten to where I don't like the feel of the plastic whistle on my teeth. I promise if you get used to this, you will not crush your whistles as often, if at all.

The Green Monster does not. If it does today (which I doubt since I've heard plenty of their distinctive train-like blasts), then perhaps I have a rare, collectable version.
You must have a collectible

Train with a dalahassee. But was hunting a couple days ago and found myself in a situation with a nearly 500 yard blind in 20 MPH winds on a rice field. And just had my old mega whistle on my duck lanyard. Surprisingly enough got the control I needed with it at a very long distance. And picked up the duck. Didn't really think it would work that far. But did fine.
