Am hoping to start training again in a couple of months.

Not able to throw a bird very well and not certain if I will ever be able to throw a bird as well as I did before my stroke.

Still want to be a working participant when I train. So I’ve been thinking about buying a winger to take into the field with me and throw birds. Don’t need remote electronics. Need a light weight portable winger.

Recommendations?

Ted,
I've had 3 mini Zingers for years with electronics, luv them. The reason for the mini's is they fit in my Pickup very easily. The release distance is plenty for the training you need. Zinger has a dual manual/remote release. I don't know if you can do the same with the Gunners up release. My 2c

I hope you get out training as soon as your able. I'm sure your itching to do so. I'll be very happy to see you and shake your hand when I do.

I've had Gunner's Up (smaller model), Zinger (G4), and Slinger ("Realistic") that I used with Dogtra electronics. They are all fine, but the Slinger is easiest to set up and maybe a little safer because it doesn't use pins to hold the arms up.

Best wishes with your return to the field.

BTW: Tobias posted while I was composing, so I didn't see her post until after mine.

Great minds think alike? :)

I know nothing of the current devices but if you can find a Tangelo Tosser it would be perfect, very simple design, only 3 parts, and a kick release which is perfect when it is used by a person in the field.

What size Slinger do you recommend?

There is only 5” difference in the original and the realistic (the smaller one) and only a few yards difference in the throws. I am 68, short and not athletic at all and can carry these all over the field with no problem. Easy to set up, no pins and great consistent throws. Choose size based on how you plan to stow/carry it. Mine are the original.

I agree with the Slinger recommendations. And I would get the realistic size in black. The owner is a great guy and is always happy to help answer any questions you may have.
Why Black?

Why worry about glare from a winger when you have white-coated stick men and a quack and a shot from the gun station at 200+ yards?
For me, if I retire a gun (slinger makes a retiring stickman), and there is still a big silver winger sitting there and shining, it is more obvious than a black one.
