A friend of mine recently bought a 7 week old golden (male) puppy. That was a week ago. My friend emailed me yesterday, telling me that the pup is "sometimes" lifting his leg when he goes out to pee. Now, at only 8 weeks old, isn't this rather early in life for an 8 week old pup (of any breed) to be hiking up his leg to go pee?

Curious Regards,
Bob

It usually takes awhile. 8 weeks is a bit early, the dog is gay.

I've had a couple of golden males that have lifted their legs quite early, but it doesn't last very long. They go right back to squatting then suddenly at about 6 to 8 months will lift their legs regularly.

My bitches all lift their legs (yeah, I have alpha fluffy bitches) and they go around the yard and pee over the male's spot!!

My BLM that's nearly two now did this between 7 and 9 weeks, then he stopped for several months before going back to it. Man, I kinda wish he still did it like the girl dogs....we have some bushes that he's burned up in the airing yard!

This too shall pass. I have seen a few that do it early and then stop until they are loder. He probably is just tired of getting his fluffy legs wet....or he is gay
