Send me some addresses too, and I will send some care packages...

The USPO has a flat rate box that you can make as heavy/full as you like, and it goes for the same price. We sent a bunch of these crammed full of magazines and snacks to some troops from another forum.

Could my kids at school do this (high school)? I have five or so kids in an evening program who would benefit just as much as the soldiers.

Just PM me!

How about this...
We can all send letters to you at your address...and you can distribute them to get the ball rolling...then if your soldiers want to participate, they can email or write us back. They can also let us know what kind of care package items they might like to have. This will save you from PM'ing each and every one of us who is interested and save a lot of time right here at the beginning. What do you think?

For all those looking for some great ideas for care packages...

I just returned from my 1-year deployment to Iraq about90-days ago. The best items received by me and my soldiers were: DVDs (even used ones from Blockbuster or garage sales that cost $1), beef jerky, flavored sunflower seeds, Girl Scout cookies, tooth paste, disposable razors, wet wipes, liquid hand sanitizer, and the latest copies of DU and Retriever Journal!!

I hope that this helps...Jeff

I am currently in Iraq and some good ideas for care packages include ANYTHING YOU CAN MICROWAVE! I am not sure where Mr Herring is located but some of the smaller bases really do not have much in the way of amenities. Good Coffee would be another good idea. Starbucks has a program where you can send coffee to the soldiers but it never seems to filter down to us. It must all be in Baghdad!

So Jerry if one were to send a care package- what would be the "most desirable" contents?

Don't wanna break no hearts regards

Bubba
Don't forget the TWIZZLERS.

The list that is in Ken's thread is fairly generic stuff that a battalian commander is asking for to share with his guys. For Iraq, there is some sorta flea or insect bracelets, or even flea/tick collars that they like to put around their boots to keep the sand mites out.

Also, I was reminded if you send coffee, to also send some coffee filters.

I am at COB Adder and have nothing to complain about either except when Taco Bell runs out of hot sauce

haha! I spent a little bit of time there in 07 before I pushed north. I HATED it there. Nice PX and chow, but hated that you had to salute every 5th step. The FOB I am at in Afghanistan couldn't be any different. No PX at all, and the chow is horrible. If we want hygeine stuff, we have to do a GAC to a FOB about 2 hours away. The catch is that the route is VERY heavily IED'ed, so we learn to make due. I like pogie bait, but a triple stacked anti tank mine makes it not worth it!

Keep your head down, brother.
