Our local Sacramento TV news just ran a piece on 50 reasons why it helps longevity and other health related issues. I put some in my coffee instead of sugar this morning! Have a good day all!

Instead of sugar…
It is sugar, pure sugar. And a “complex” sugar at that.
You know, if you heat your maple syrup to about 280°
And stir it rapidly as it cools it will, right before your eyes
turn from liquid form to granular form. Making it very
easy to spoon into your coffee. The native peoples who
first made maple syrup would store almost all of the crop this way.
They had no way to store liquid syrup, no glass or metal containers.
That is why we are still called “Sugarmakers” by those who know.

.

..is there a way to post the 50 reasons...without typing each one!

Good maple syrup is good for your emotional state, and that's beneficial to your whole life! I know where you can get some that's truly special!:D

hmmm. I am interested in seeing these 50 reasons. I make maple syrup and have just finished my worst year in the 5 that I have been sugaring. I have between 150-200 trees tapped on tubing with vacuum. I usually make 15-20 gallons a year and this year only got 2 gal:(

I don't know where they got the 50 reasons, but I thought of ken when I watched the broadcast. They said something about the Syrup not seeing light, and that is where the healing qualities come from. Ken??

I am still waiting for the experts to tell me Beer will make me live till I am 100. My wife thinks it is bad for me, but I know better. take care all.

I heard that was an 'old wives tale' started by Ken to help with the sales - BUT - who cares? Even if you don't live longer you will sure enjoy the taste and die happy.

So sorry to hear, where are you? We are having a very good year. Started February 28th and I was ready. We only make syrup in February maybe every 5 years. The syrup has been light and the sap cold and clear. Have not boiled in a few as it has been gloomy but with the hard freeze coming Wednesday night and Thursday I am sure to be boiling for the coming Vermont open house weekend.

I am in CT. It went from too cold to too warm in about a week. I also tap mostly red maples which doesn't help with sugar concentration. Good to hear your year is going well.

We haven't tapped in about 6 years but did this year to cure the boredom. We only had 30 taps out and we made about 5 gallon. I think that is pretty good for only a two week season. We are still on 5 gal buckets, we have the potential to go big because we own about a 10 acre sugar woods. Problem is investing in the tubing and then getting it off the top of the hill which is a mile away......

Gee Ken, maybe we could trade some dog training on our grounds for some tubing expertise! Should have set this up in the "bater/swap thread!

Love the sticky stuff regards,

Earlene

From a friends website - They are maple syrup makers and have a "seasonal" pancake restaurant in Southern Tier New York

DID YOU KNOW?
Real Maple Syrup contains zinc and
manganese, which are essential for a
healthy immune system and helps to
lower levels of bad cholesterol. Maple
Syrup is a good sweetener to use if you
are trying to protect the
health of your heart.

I guess those can be considered "benefits"

Wow.....thanks! Going to open more of Ken's "stuff" in the AM then!! ..do not want to miss out on health benefits!! :) ...oops...and not to mention the "emotional benefits", too!!!

Don't know if you can oficially call it a health benefit but a biggo steaming pile of flapjacks dripping with fresh butter and swimming in Ken's Famous Maple syrup definitely makes my sticker peck out.

Will work for food regards

Bubba

Actually I have relatives in Rochester. My Grandmothers (on my fathers side) maiden name was Dumas and there is a cluster of them there. Not a bad drive. Closer than Baldwinsville, the outer limit of my hunt test range.
