What do you do then? It isn't light enough to work my dog til about 6:25 in the morning and getting later every day. I have to be back at the house by 7:10 to get him fed and get a shower and off to work. I am sick of summer and ready for a cold snap!

Mine is running pattern blinds right now and we train at about 6:15 AM. Not a whole lot of light but he is doing well. When he was a younger we regularly training in the early morning light (or dark as would have it). I threw 50 to 100 yard marks and he nailed them.

You've got half an hour to do something. Where is your dog at in training? I'm sure that there's something you can do that will advance/maintain him.

It all evens out, just consider you guys are the flip side of Montana. Right now I could train 16-18 hours, not too hot, not too cold, good light from about 6:15 to about 9:15pm, but don't ask me about January, too cold, all water frozen, usually snow on the ground and dark until just before work and right after work.

Yes half and hour is great, but in a month we will only have about 5 minutes. This morning we did 3 rounds of mini pile then got a live flier and did 3 doubles at about 40 yards with ducks and bumpers. Then had some kind of melt down on heeling in the right spot so we worked on heel while holding a bird. today was good, just looking out to the next month when it wont be light out til 7 and still 100 degrees after work.

I just moved my mom up to NE Iowa and the high that entire weekend was in the low 80s with morning temps in the low 60s?!?!? we haven't seen 60s in Oklahoma in several months. My truck said 79 degrees on the way to the training land this morning at 6:00. on the other hand training in Iowa with snow drifts over our head in the winter would be no fun!

I would say this is pretty good based on time factor.

I have been starting at first light and going till 6 or so, that gives me a half hour or so depending on when I get to the park. By the time I set up single T, get out the pup, etc 15 good minutes takes us to 6 or after. By then he is about to pass out and has usually drank about half a gallon of water. Nothing like seeing the temp in the truck on the way back from a daylight training session and it saying 80 something.

I feel you Gavin. It is hard to get things done. I usually don't get home until 7 am so my work is shorter but can be done. Are you going to SRC training day this Sat?

Russell

We just take July and August off. Any morning that is below 70 deg we go out and train. Northern people have to take off in the winter, we just take off in the summer.

If it makes I will be there. Talked to Bill yesterday and so far just Sue and I had signed up...need to get a few more folks to make it worth Bill's time. At least enough to set up a triple. Which leads me to my next question, are you going? :D

Probably will go. I have to go and look for a new car with my wife since she wrecked hers Sunday so can't stay very late. Too hot to stay very late anyway, but I am planning on it just haven't told Bill yet.

yes I got her on July 16. She is almost 11 weeks old so nothing for her yet just fun and leash training. I will have her with me though. If we don't have enough to get a day out there you can come up and train with me on either day this weekend. i live in the Tuttle area and have some decent places to train on.
