Ok, I did search this before posting! All I could find were references to "why did pup stop retrieving, he was such a goer?" In a previous post I asked about Chief's gums looking gray. I think I got a good answer to that. But now, Chief did not eat any breakfast, and is definitely a little "down". Instead of busting out of his crate full of piss and vinegar, he just wants to crawl up in my lap and be petted. He went out as normal this morning, pooped just fine, played around a bit with the big dogs and then was ready to turn in. Could these be related to teething? He did like a cube of ice that I gave him to chew on, I just don't know if I should be worrying about the lethargy.

BTW, he is 18 weeks Wed.

It could be.

But, my guide is this....if they ACT fine, its probably nothing.

If they act NOT FINE.....its time for the vet.

If he's off his food, feeling lethargic and is "out of sorts".....off to the vet.

Its probably NOTHING (Don't panic) but I do think this calls for a "third opinion"......

Now pup has eaten all of his food from this morning once I softened it with a little water. My husband is out searching the first aid kit in the dog box for our thermometer and if he can not find it I will go out to CVS and get one. I feel like he is ok because he obviously found his appetite when the food was softer. If not a 100% in the morning, off to the vet. I just wonder if this happens often with teething. I don't remember my other two having a single "off" day because of it? Thanks.

I've had them not eat.

But not eat, be mopey and clingy.

My pup is almost 19 weeks and he is teething also. He is basically has the same symptoms you described. He has been sleeping more and not as excited to do things. I have just let him be. I have stopped throwing dummies and I do a littleobedience. My main fear is that he will associate retrieving with pain or a negative experience. Any thoughts about this idea? Is this a regular thing to do during teething?

Tanner went through a short phase like this just a bit ago. He now has all of his big boy teeth coming in and still does better if we wet his food. Ha a little gum bleeding last weekend after some retrieves.

find an old rag and make notted ropes out of it. wet and freeze them and let himchew onthose. Works wonders.

I've got a pup about 19 or 20 weeks. She's not through teething yet but definately went through a period starting about 2 weeks ago where she was not the least bit enthusiastic about eating and wasn't quite as chipper as normal. We started softening the food with water and she's been eating fine ever since.

I have noticed that over the last few days she's really starting to become a pain in the butt. I can only assume that she's feeling better and making up for lost time ;-)
