I received an email today from a Ken Thorson. He appears to have put together a training manual from assorted notes and writings from Rex Carr. Is anyone else out there familiar with this work?

The email raised a few red flags for me because of all the spam and junk attached to it. Also, though I was aware that Vicki was working on a book, I think I would have read some discussion of any other volume that was in the works. I wonder also which list my email address was taken from. I know it was not my own blog, as that has a unique address and this was from my "everyday" email address.

Have any of you heard of this book? Have you received any emails? Is it for real and if so is it of value?

Is this it?

Rex Carr's Preliminary Force Program is available in a 171 page easy to use reference book. The reference material includes puppy and young dog basics, yard work and the foundation development work (force program) for any retrievers. It is a step by step process from puppy to transistion work. This book is also very detailed and user friendly, flexible to your dog's temperament and level of corrections. We are confident and garantee that this material will compliment any hunting or field trial training program or you can return for refund. Please respond by E-mail for further details to

Tom,
The following is what I received. Note the spam at the bottom. Maybe its legit, but I wonder.

Carol & Ralph,

Didn't know if you would be interested in the following, but I and many others are always interested in training material. Also, I spent many years putting this together in an organized/structured way to compliment Rex's program.

I finally finished my reference book about young dog training. So many times I have had to work a young dog through the preliminary force program without reference to complete or proper notes. After collecting training notes (primarily Rex Carr's) for the last twenty-five years, I finally made the decision to organize them into a comprehensive reference manual.

During the last five years, we have put these notes together into a (9X7) reference book (see attached). As you all know, Rex was a genius when it came to training dogs, and I think we have captured his program in a detailed and user-friendly format. His program, when implemented properly, will carry a dog through a lifetime of All Age work. The effectiveness of this program is not simply a matter of opinion, but has, rather, been proven time after time by Rex, his helpers, and Tommy Williams in his young dog work.

If interested, please contact us by E-mail for further details (kthor1@juno.com).

Ken & Sandi Thorson

There was also a picture of the book attached at the bottom but it will not cut and paste here.

I got the same email last week Carol.
Funny thing about the name used.
Like yours, personal,. to Carol and Ralph.
Mine was to Kenneth. Nobody alive calls me Kenneth.
Not that I mind at all, just nobody does.
Kenneth is used in my name only one place on the web.
Owner of dog of 3 dogs on Entry Express.
hhhhhhhhhmmmmmmm How can that be????????

I actually found what I am pretty sure is you a couple other places with google
White pages (w/ Phone, and full address in Burlington, VT)
Vermont Fish & Wildlife (Drew a tag in the Antlerless Lottery 2010, Burlington, VT)
NAHRA judges and Handlers Clinic held in 2005 in VT (this one has an Verizon email address associated with it)
Burlington Area Food Stores an Specialties (This on begins: Allow me to introduce myself, My name is Kenneth Bora and I am a Vermont Sugarmaker.)

So, There is a lot more on the web than we really know. All of the above were "Kenneth".

I just presumed this wasn't you: "Apr 23, 1990 – The case Hardy wanted involved Kenneth Bora, a local club manager and accused pornographer." ;) ;)

but David, do you think everyone in Vermont who drew a muzzleloader tag received an email to purchase a dog training item?
I should have typed, in our retriever training world, with my burlingtontelecom working email................

as to the club thing, her Mom swore to me that she was 18.;-)

Just saying, I did a cursory search on your name and came up with those, just by perusing what google returned. There are much more sophisticated tools that can be used to build lists of people. That could also include getting data out of entry express, and not necessarily BY entry express.

Over a 40 year career there were many people around Rex who absorbed varying amounts of information and that information was subject to change as Rex evolved his training program. I can think of only two people who would be uniquely qualified to interpret Rex and his "program" and neither were involved in this publication.

Thank you Ed and Ken. So where do these guys come from and how did they get our adresses? Anybody know?

I got one of those e-mails a couple of months ago Carol.

Can't blame some one for trying to market dog training stuff. If they know a thing or 2 about it and people are willing to buy it and give it a try. Who knows it could be the next best seller:D.

Sales is a dirty job but somebodies gotta do it.

Pete

I am sure that is what they are doing David. They have also used EE classifieds to list the book.

I was gonna say, that was the most believable thing that was dug up!
You know your sister well.:p :p
