Goodness gracious Chris He is sure growing up. The last time I saw your sons was when they were sure smaller........Congrats Max !!

Congrats to Max! I took my 13 yo stepson out for his first hunt Saturday. Pheasant hunting with released birds, youth only. First bird came up 10 ft in front of him, perfect, I said take it, watching the bird fly away...no shot...looked over at him, he had a sheepish look on his face. I said what happened? Small grin, but no answer. I said that bird scared you when it flushed didn't it? Then I got the big smile, and a big "yea!"....He never did hit any, but he had his chances, and we had a blast. I have more fun going out with the kids than any other time, just seeing their faces light up. And his Remington 870 youth worked perfect, and my 7mo lab went nuts every time a bird flushed. I kept him on a check cord, and my arms are about 4 inches longer than they were from him pulling through the weeds. A great day, looking forward to hearing about Max's hunts!:)

My son completed his hunter's safety course on Saturday in IL. His mom and I surprised him with his own 20 ga youth model Remington 870. Yesterday we burned through a box of shells and some clays.

Here's his first time shooting with one in the magazine.

Sometimes in our day to day haste we forget what pure, unbridled joy is.
One look at Max's face, it is redefined.

Awesome!!

When my younger brother turned 12 or so, the family pooled some funds and bought him the 870 Express 20 guage youth model, maple stock. Then we took him out dove hunting. The problem is, that little gun, shooting 7 1/2 field loads, kicks harder than a 12 guage shooting the same. And LOUD!!!!! With most any shotgun, you can shoot a few rounds and it won't bother your ears (in the short term ), but that youth model couldn't be fired without ear protection...EVER. That thing got put in the gun cabinet, and it's never been used. Looks like the one you got is performing better, though.

That was a great video! Now let's see a video of him shooting his first duck!

Very, very nice!
Looking forward to seeing pics of Max with some birds soon.

That is outstanding nothing like a kid shooting. Not trying to nit pick, try to get him into the habit of keeping his finger on the side of the action until he is ready to shoot. When he goes to mount it looks like his finger is in the guard. But other than that bring him down I give him some lessons.

from another thread
........
they are pretty much invite only you will need to find someone that attends them.
Best
and then here
..... But other than that bring him down I give him some lessons.
looks like Max just got an invite!!!!! could open the door to a lifestyle of fun!
