I was told by Chewy that they were temporarily out of stock. I replaced my order with PPP 30/20 this month. Was hoping to return to the Euk. ☹

A friend of mine, sponsored by Eukanuba, was running some tests on the new formulas with some of his clients dogs (with owners permission, of course). Eukanuba was paying for blood and stool samples, along with some other metrics, to help measure the effectiveness of the new food in real-life, competitive dogs.

I think this is going to be the new product: https://www.eukanubasportingdog.com/premium-performance.html

Is there any info available yet as to which formula best suits our field dogs? This sounds interesting if the research is solid. Don’t want my pup to be a guinea pig!

It appears from the link the only thing new is the addition of 3 new protein:fat ratio formulations in addition to the old EPP 30:20 which I fed for years. It is a good diet but the company abandoned support of the retriever world several years ago which caused me to switch to Purina PP. I have no regrets and have picked up significantly less dog feces in the last 10 years.

Was true Ed, but they are really making an effort to right that wrong. MARS is putting a lot of support into performance events.

From the peanut gallery: Euk is likely a good food for our performance dogs however there is a huge difference in the support of performance sports. Euk has been in and out of performance sports with regard to financial support at least a 1/2 dozen times in the last 30 years. Every time they get a new bean counter off they go .

We fed Purina ; one it’s a good food, 2) they support our performance sports 3) Purina has field representatives that actually speak retriever and understand our sport.
Purina writes a check to all the US National clubs I believe.

Now with tongue in cheek - go back to when I was a kid with beagles and later bird dogs . Those dogs never quit, hunt all day and they ate the cheapest stuff I could find. Because I had to mow yards to earn that dog food money. Yep it was cheaper but a big yard and push mower for $1 was a lot of work.
Today I feed Purina and Chewy delivers it to the door.
Dk

They will probably generate new business but are unlikely to recover loyal customers like me who fed and recommended Iams products for thirty years.

Went to local Farm/feed store today so I would not run out before new stuff comes out. Noticed the bag looked different and was Eukanuba Performance 30/20 and in gold Sport. I pulled the old bag out and compared ingredients and there is a difference. Good or Bad, I am not a scientist so I don't know. Time will tell. /IMG_0332.jpeg

Does anyone have any idea of when n the 30/20 Premium Performance (and the other three new premium performance) wil be available. Chewy just keeps saying it is discontinued
the website says “coming soon”, I bet you can find out when at 888-385-2682 or help@eukanuba.com

Mars has done a very poor job on the transition. Since I could not get The 30/20 from Chewy or anywhere else, i am feeding PPP. The longer i feed it the more satisfied with my dogs’ condition I get.

Strange how people have such different experiences with a product. I have the opposite. No problem with food or support from Euk. Might it be the region ? I am just happy they are back promoting sporting dogs and hope people can appreciate that and if you use the food , great. If not, at least respect the effort.

Where have you been able to get Euk? Ive fed nothing but to my adult dogs for 15 years. Only went to Purina when i could not get it. My choice had nothing to do with promoting the sport or not. And now I have discovered that my dogs are doing well on it. Just saying Euk allowed the competition to slip in the empty space and move in.

2Tall I am in MN and have never had a problem with supply. I use to be on the brown bag program , but the restructuring of distributors made my new distributor to far a dive so I buy from Fleet Farm here.

I have always told friends who ask what to feed that I have had great results with Euk, but feeding a premium food that the dogs thrive on is more important than a brand IMO. And I can see switching if supply became an issue. Lots of good food out there.

Side note : Interesting article in Retriever Journal on Iams an how he was the first to really dive into nutrition for dogs and what went into food.

They have seven online retailers listed. You are near Charlotte, right? There appear to be several vendors in the area who carry Eukanuba food.

I appreciate the link Mike. But i tried both of the retailers listed near me and one does not carry Euk at all and the other is out of stock. I really did try.

Believe me, I get it. I recently went to Petsmart, and just for laughs, strolled the dog food aisles. In general, I would say Purina and Eukanuba occupied 5% of the shelf space. They are clearly not the "in" brands right now for the general pet population, and thus, harder to get in person.

I quickly searched amazon, and did find a few vendors with it in stock, albeit at seemingly higher prices. Purina launched a new program called "Vet Direct", where you order through a Purina website, and your vet's office gets a sales commission. The prices were within a couple of dollars compared to Chewy. The major advantage is you order directly from Purina, so in theory, there is always food in stock. The food goes directly from Purina to your door, and your vet does not need to approve the order. It has been just as easy as ordering from Chewy or Amazon.

Here’s my response from Eukanuba Consumer Care a couple of days ago, they don’t seem to be too pleased with Chewy informing customers that the 30/20 product is unavailable/discontinued...

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. It has come to our attention that there has been a miscommunication from Chewy regarding the Eukanuba 30/20. A message went out stating that this diet was discontinued and to contact Eukanuba regarding an alternate diet recommendation.

Recently the Premium Performance line has been optimized and we have added additional diets to the Premium Performance line. We are still producing the Eukanuba 30/20, however the former UPC was discontinued and the name is now Eukanuba Sport 30/20. We are currently working with Chewy regarding the previous messaging and to have the Eukanuba Sport 30/20 listed on their website for purchase. We sincerely apologize for any confusion regarding the Eukanuba Sport 30/20.

The updated packaging is indicative of the formula optimization. Each diet is evaluated and formulated by a team of veterinary nutritionists and professionals with years of experience in pet nutrition. Changes in our formulations will occur as science and ingredients are updated. Any change is not taken lightly, it is reviewed by our veterinary team and is implemented based on the information from our research. The formula optimization is to best suit the needs of the pets for which they are intended. I have included information below comparing the changes.
