I know lots of people have call names like "Jack" or "Mack".... and even similar sounding names like "Max" or "Jazz" ....

I am considering a name like Jack for a new pup and was curious if this did not work well with training with the command word "back". Would love to know peoples thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

UH HRCH Candlewoods Captain Jack Sparrow QA2 MH

Not the big titles, but never a single issue with call name Jack.

That's good to hear, thanks Captain Jack! You are a much better trainer than a novice like myself, so I still worry that the pup won't be able to tell the difference from Jack vs Back. But it sounds like you haven't had any issues... So that's good to know! I know there are plenty more successful Jacks out there too. So, I guess it's probably good to go. Now I just need to get the wife to think she came up with the name!!! :D haha. jk. We are down to 3-4 final names and Jack has made the cut and was going to scratch it if people thought it would cause training confusion...

I wouldn't think you would have a problem by having a call name that rhymes with back because the end result is the same - both mean take off. You might argue that it allows for confusion on who is in control, but maybe you can get by with the "dead bird" cue on that. I would not think that this would be near the (hypothetical?) problem of having a call name that started with an S because of the possibility of confusion on sit, but I know several dogs that have an S name and don't seem to have trouble with it.
