I am just wondering if this is a golden thing or if other people have different breeds that do this? Every morning my 8 month old female has got everything possible stock piled on the back deck! Anything she can find is by the back door, toys, wood,#2 out of the yard, sticks, weeds, anything you can think of. The other day I let her out and when I left, the ice out of the water bucket was on the step! It just amazes me how much of a pack rat she is!:D Anyone else have a goof ball dog?:p

All three of my dogs have a blanket that we got for them when we first brought them home. The each will lay on their specific blanket at bed time or camping or whatever. My BLM is 8 months old and he steals them from the other dogs. The blankets are on the bedroom floor and every day by dinner all three blankets have been taken out of the room, either into the living room or outside. Both of my labs like my daughter's toys, and every day when I'm cooking dinner they bring me a stuffed animal.

I think most retrievers are pack rats, always wanting something in their mouth.

Our black lab has brought just about everything it finds amusinf into our house, bricks, large rocks, chunks of wood, even corn stalks from the garden (not a desired thing). Nothing more fun than waking up in the morning, crossing the living room floor only to stump my toe in a full size brick... I am not sure I like or appreciate "Doggy Door's" :)

My BLM is a pack rat too.... He has a place in the basement I call his "hidey hole" He will take all kinds of things, bumpers, toys, clothing, boxes, bones etc and put them in his "hidey hole". Whenever anything is missing, I just go look in that spot and I can usually find it. He loves to take articles of our clothing there.

Also, every day, when I take my shower he steals either my pants or shirt and takes it to the other room and lays on it. When I get out, I say, "Did you take my pants"? he will pick them up and run up the stairs with them, and "keep" them for his own! He is soo funny and he does this EVERY day.

He also likes to pile things on top of each other, like pile up two or three toys, then chew his bone on top of the pile!

Wow, I feel like the word's biggest meanie. I always corrected Indy, and now Scout, for stealing stuff. Indy always liked to grab my used underwear out of the laundry and parade them around the house, guest or no. Now he won't take anything he is not asked to bring. Plus we never had many toys around. After discovering we could spend a fortune on toys, they still preferred plastic jugs, rocks, dish towels, etc. why bother?

My best story is about my old dog Harry. He was first mate on my husband's charter boat. He always hung around and supervised the clean up and stowing of gear. One evening after Ralph had finished cleaning out the live well, Harry was strangely distracted, just sitting on the dock waiting to go home. Well, the two of them came up the stairs to the condo we were living in and Harry still seemed quiet and close mouthed. When they came in the door, Harry walked into the middle of the living room, (white carpet) turned to me, opened his mouth, and a whole live mullet was deposited there for me!!!! He had that fish completely enclosed in his mouth and it was very lively when it hit the floor! Needless to say, I picked it up and tossed it off the balcony. Same dog used to carry a full 6 back of Heinikens (glass bottles) by the handle down to the boat. He was never trained at all, he just did this stuff:D:D:D

My golden piles his toys or bones up and then covers them with "invisible" dirt. In the house, he presses them down with his nose and "covers" them using his nose. Like I can't see them!

I don't know what it is about Goldens....Our neighbor's golden used to steal our newspaper....or other items she found in the yard...kid's sweatshirts, toy, boots left outside the door....

THIEVES I say.... ;)

My young female golden piles everything up in her dog bed. I called her a magpie and have several pictures of "the dump" that I sent to her breeder.

My YLF is crazy about socks. I'll come home from work, take her out of the kennel and the closer we get to the house the crazier she gets. By the time I have the door unlocked she's about to go nuts. I make her sit, open the door and tell her to go in and she goes straight to our laundry room, searches for a sock and then comes back with a sock, happy as she can be!:)
