I am reading the rule book on the requirements for the AFC title. It states:
(2) a total of 10 points in Open All-Age, Limited All-Age,
Special All-Age or, Restricted All-Age stakes, or a total of 15
points in Open All-Age, Limited All-Age, Special All-Age,
Amateur All-Age, Owner-Handler All-Age, or Restricted
All-Age Stakes which may be acquired as follows:

So which is it, 10 points or 15 points? Does it mean 10 points and a win or 15 total points? Confused.

I am no expert but if the dog achieves all its points in everything but Owner-Handler or Amateur All-Age then it only needs 10 total points.

If there are All Age points awarded that include Owner-Handler and/or Amateur then it needs 15.

Here is the breakdown:

10 points
Open All-Age, Limited All-Age, Special All-Age or, Restricted All-Age stakes

15 points
Open All-Age, Limited All-Age, Special All-Age, Amateur All-Age, Owner-Handler All-Age, or Restricted

So, if I understand what you are saying, essentially the Amateur and O/H stakes do not count as much as the other listed stakes. If you get your points in the first list you only need 10 if you get them all in the 2nd list you need 15.

What if you mix it up? Maybe you run the open and get some points and you also run some O/H Am stakes and get some points? If you mix them is it 15?

Do you have to have a win in there somewhere to qualify or could you put together a string of 2nd's and 3rd's and get your points without a win?

open stake points when handled by an amateur needs 10 points for AFC. Open stake when handled by an Amat and Amateur stake points jointly needs 15 point for AFC.
Amateur Stake points only needs 15 for AFC.
ie they recognize that it is more demanding (or equal) for an amateur to get 10 open points than it is to get 15 Amateur points.
All avenues must include a win

If an Amateur gets points in an Open they count towards the AFC.

If you win an Open the win counts towards your FC and AFC. If you get 10 points in the Open with at least one win as an Amateur you get the FC and AFC. If you get 8 points in the Open with a win you need to get 7 points in the Amateur for the AFC.

AKC rules require that an Amateur Field Champion must earn a win while being handled by an amateur.

Chapter 14, section 17 of Retriever Rules states

"but before acquiring a championship,
a dog must win a first place and acquire 5
points in at least one Open All-Age, Limited All-Age,
Special All-Age, Amateur All-Age, Owner-Handler
Amateur, or Restricted All-Age Stake open to all breeds
of Retriever"
