I've got a question concerning a diving cripple. My dog has an absolute passion to want to get a crippled duck and will NOT give up a diving cripple. Most of the time if I see this happening I will walk out there with a dead duck in my waders and throw it in the water when she's not looking making her think that it's the bird. The problem arrises when it's the first bird of the day. She's a 22 month old, and this is her first real duck season. I don't want her to lose that passion, but I also want her to listen to me when I call her back in. The other day she refused to come back to me and I had to really get on to her, but I also hate to scold her for chasing a cripple. Any ideas?

unless you shoot everything stone dead you are very fortunate to have a young dog willing to get after it, wait till the first time you see only your dogs butt and tail sticking out and the next moment a big fat mallard in his jaws, then you got yourself a dog..

we shoot a lot of ringbills here in CenTex and they are diving son of a guns if they are crippled
