I'm preparing to run my first Senior hunt test next weekend, so I decided to read the rules. I read the rules (almost) in their entirety, skimming a few parts, and focussing on areas that my dog is weak in. About halfway through, I realized that I hadn't seen a single reference to cheating the shoreline, running the bank, etc. Steadiness, control, delivery, marking, etc. were all in there, but not cheating! I read through the guidlines- nothing about cheating.
I'm concerned about this, because I don't have a decent taining pond for dealing with cheating, so it could be a problem. But if cheating isn't even mentioned in the rulebook, then it shouldn't be an issue, right? Well, not so fast! A judge at a Junior hunt test said that if the dogs cheated on the way to the marks, they would "have to judge the dog".
So I would like to ask you hunt test judges: assuming that that in all other respects a dog did qualifying work, can a dog receive a low score in trainability, perseverence, style, or marking for cheating a shoreline or hazzard?
Thanks in advance for your help.
