Well unfortunately my fearless fire breather lost his invincibility cloak. A week and a half ago my pup had an injury and I could tell he definitely wasn't right. He was not bearing weight on his one paw that night and was very lethargic. The next day (Saturday) I took him in to the animal hospital to check out his injury. The X-Ray confirmed that he fractured his Ulna. I have done a lot of reading and it sounds like dogs typically fracture both their radius and ulna at the same time, so I guess 1 fracture is better than 2. After talking with the vet and assessing the xrays, there was one fracture line in the center mass of the bone straight across. Everything was still in place however which was a plus. They gave him some pain meds and splinted him up. I have to change out the splint every week due to him growing (14 weeks right now) and is supposed to be in it for 4 weeks before another X-Ray. After explaining to the vet what I planned for this puppy, she explained that he is going to make a full recovery and that the injury could've been a lot worse. He goes into a physical therapy place locally on Friday to set up a regiment for once he gets his splint off. I'm hoping it'll only be a month or so of PT. The Sunday after the incident he was back to his full amount of energy. I am keeping him on crate rest though until the splint is removed and will monitor him very closely the month following the splint being removed. I have done LOADS of reading to make sure that he really can recover and still be able to compete in hunt tests down the road. There isn't a lot out there but after consulting with a few individuals it has helped ease my worrying! At the end of the day it's a minor setback. A little bump in the road, we will take our time to make sure he is ready to go down the road when it really matters!
