Hopefully it won't take to long. Our litter of 13 took just over 7 hrs. She was popping them out like clock work for 10, then decided on a 2hr break before having the next 3 in 40 min.

That is what I am hoping for. When it starts for it all to go smooth.

The Pet cal is commonly found at pet stores. You can also get some vanilla ice cream-the good kind with all the sugar

I am sure she would love the ice cream, all we normally stock is rocky road. Is there a kind without all the sugar that would be gross I think.

Sugar=energy. We have Gilles so it's an excuse to buy a half gallon of vanilla. Save the Rocky Road for yourself.

Jason, In the Navy we used to do what they called an "Anchor Pool", as in when the ship comes in.... Are we taking bets on when everything starts? After that xray I'm guessing soon, whats your call?

Nancy, I was just saying sugar free ice cream would be gross, I might try some of the good stuff for her when she starts, but she has never liked the doggie ice cream.

Byron, Her temp dropped yesterday around 6pm to 98ish. It started to come back up a little this morning and at noon. I am getting play by play from my wife. She has been restless all night and today, she is sleeping now, or attempting to on her nested blankets and keeps trying to hide in the blindspots of the cameras. I should have started a pool with the time of first born and color and sex.

She seems normal just can't get comfortable and doesnt like walking around much right now, same as she did last litter although it was half the suspected size of this one.

Well we are in the panting stage at the moment so it may just be a long night all around.

Hi Jason,

I had a litter of 13 pups, 12 survived. My female Penny required a c-section and did not have milk in at the time. She was placed on Reglan and another drug to help with milk production. Her milk came in and then some. For the first week, I rotated the pups in two groups for feedings. I would place the smaller pups on the bottom nipples. After a week, no more assistance was needed. Penny did a great job as a mom and I did not supplement feedings either, just rotated the pups on and off. Sleep deprivation is normal with a large litter.

Penny was on oral calcium tabs made by virbac. I followed the dosing directions on the bottle. You can find those at your local pet store and I have seen them at chain pet stores as well. You can call and ask if a store carries it before going store hopping. I have used them now with 6 litters with good results.

I started my litter a little earlier on whole food. The pups were 3 weeks. I used a mixture of goat's milk, rice cereal, and canned baby food(meat flavored). The pups loved it and it took the stress off of Penny till the pups were weaned. The pups were weaned onto puppy food.

With your female, provide plenty of water and food. Do not be shocked if she eats 12+ cups of food a day, especially as the babies begin to grow. I also supplemented Penny's diet with cooked beef liver, cottage cheese, cooked eggs, sardines, plain vanilla yogurt, and vension stew.

With the ice cream, get the plain fatty vanilla ice cream. Avoid the sugarfree ice cream/yogurt as it may contain artificial sweeteners which is harmful to dogs.

Good luck and keep us updated!

Yes we have 13 healthy puppies so far.

That's great man. How long did she take and what are the final numbers.

Final count is 13 pups. 8 yellow and 5 black. I started a new thread the puppy marathon that I'm gonna try and keep updated with pics. I'm gonna get some good pica later on today. All healthy, 1 pups cord pulled out while on his way out. Vet fixed him up though.
