I'm looking for suggestions for tempting foods that are also easy on the tummy.
Long story short, we are out of the woods but now need to continue getting food in the tummy.
So far scrambled eggs and low fat cottage cheese are both tempting and staying down.
Home made chicken and rice is a NO GO. He won't eat it. The other dogs of course think this is a bonus as they get the leftovers.
Thanks in advance,
Carolyn and Buddy

Very lean meat and rice always seems to do the trick. We've made balls of that with cottage cheese, so they're like treats... I guess I missed your other posts, but am going to look. What's going on?

Hi,
when I had a dog suffering from Stomach Cancer.. baby food and even better... homemade chicken soup made with added vegetables like sweet potatoes / if you add other veggies you may need to puree them after cooking and then toss them back in the broth.. but she loved it.
I made it from scratch with a nice whole chicken.. cooked and then took the bones/fat and skin off so that it was just the lean meat and flavor in there. Yes... a labor of love.
Best of luck.

What was actually wrong with him is a mistery. We have a long list of what is NOT wrong and the vet bills to go with it. Dog was reluctant to eat breakfast and threw up a few times on Sat. Since then he rarely ate anything. He had xrays and exams, ruled out a blockage and never had the real symptoms. Ultrasound was perfectly fine. No fever, normal stools etc.
Full blood panel came back this morning everything normal.
He has started eating again scambled eggs and of all things cottage cheese.
Everything stays down now and goes thru. We have him on Pepcid ac per the vet. I just want to keep him eating but not over stress his tummy.
He is back to wanting to play is is trying jump up and grab bumpers off the hot tub!!:p:p:p

ummmmm..... why are the bumpers on the hot tub:eek::eek:? (dont tell me, swim by?)

Aw, poor guy. I hope he feels better soon. I was going to ask if you had tried an antacid... Because some dogs with a sensitive stomach will just get aversive to eating. I hope he feels better soon.

Had an old guy that was throwing up every meal-nothing wrong- finally we felt it was stress related with younger studs around. Got pepcid, Chicken soup with chicken or turkey all cooked fresh, fresh baked sweet potatoes he loved. After about a month kibble went down again. Sometimes their stomachs just get screwed up. Now if he would just stay away from the bird seed!

What about mixing the eggs & cottage cheese with the rice?

Cook the egg right in with the steamed rice (just pop in microwave for a minute or so) and add cottage cheese.

Dogs love peanut butter. I wonder what he'd eat if you mixed it with a spoonful of PB? Mine would probably eat rocks if they were mixed with PB. :p

Also, seems I've heard folks talk about pumpkin and yogurt for dogs w/stomach issues.

Actually, one of our other labs has HD and his daily exercise is retrieving bumpers from our in ground pool. I just put the bumpers up on the hot tub cover when we are done everyday.

Tried yogurt today. Nope, yuck, walked away. Shadow was happy to clean the bowl for me.
He does love peanut butter. I'll try that in the morning.

Royal Canin (Veterinary Diet) Intestinal HE canned food. Just went through a gastrointestinal deal with my old girl and she ate this very willingly.

Major happy update!
Buddy is hungry and is eating his dog food mixed with cottage cheese!
Around 6 pm today he tried to eat some pears off the tree. A quick "give"command and they were delivered to hand. I knew I had a dog that wanted food so I tried mixing 1/2 cup kibble with some cottage cheese. He ate the whole bowl without hand feeding. I put him in his crate in the family room so he would let the food settle. Around 8 pm he fussed a bit so I let him out of his crate thinking we were headed out to potty. Not so. He stopped in the kitchen and was searching for food so I gave him another small portion of kibble and cottage cheese. Gone, inhaled!!!
I think pesky magoo is well on the road to recovery!:D:D:D:D
