We have worked with a dog who had this problem. We worked through it a couple of different ways.

1- Have a BB hiding in the field (out of sight) in a position where if the dog blows you off, he can run out and pick up the bumper/bird before the dog gets to it.

2- If he blows you off on two consecutive whistles and you know hes not going to stop, get your running shoes laced up tight and run him down (I would avoid a cold burn). Then get him back in the area where he gave you the finger and enforce that sit with the heeling stick. Once sitting after the heeling stick correction give him the cast and stop him as many times as you can between where he was sitting and where the bumper lies, working up to within inches of the bumper to gain control before you let him get it.

3- If you have help and can make it happen combine #1 and #2 to solidify the lesson.

Just some thoughts!

Good luck with everything,

Kory

Angie,

You ALWAYS speak from experience it seems. So tell us what is your experience here? ;)

I'm wondering if Melanie has experience also?

Of course, neither of you may know that I have also lost control (on blinds that is!) despite apparently knowing what to do to not have it happen!! So maybe it doesn't matter how much Bon has trained dogs!!!;)

And if we all lighten up----Just sayin'

Cheers
Say it ain't so.... You lost control of your dogs on a blind??? Don't let that be known to your readers.. How will they get up in the morning??? :p

I unfortunately do think it is important that a person that responds to a OP has trained a dog or two... recently..

But it's just the internet and we're all soooo "much cooler online"...

lighter then air regards,,, Just sayin'

thanks for all the advice! alot of this stuff I know I should be doing but havn't but I will start and I also got a few new good ideas thanks we will see how it goes. The frustrating part of all this is that he had been running 300 yard blinds very well and we even ran one at 450 yards on land with most of our water blinds between 150 and 200 yards but somewhere along the way he decided he was smarter than me. maybe he's right?

That's classic, I love it. Thanks.

A dog that goes nutzoid when close to the fall area at any type of distance needs to be reminded that there is no "I" in "Team".
