I don't know of any. Beretta put a different colored plastic ring visible outside the gun on their Optima choke tubes.

That was a good idea, the choke designation was written in black on each plastic ring too. Problem was the writing wiped off the first time you cleaned it. So you still need a paper with the color coding on it to tell which is which.

 

Why not just write on the little storage containers they go in, the empty one is in the gun. Are your tubes the ones that are totally concealed inside the barrel? Just a thought, laser etching would be easy to see, but I don't know what it would cost.

 

Briley spectrum chokes are also color coded....but you can buy a paint marker at most hobby or arts/crafts store,they usually come in a three pack of white,black,gold or black,gold,silver. and look like a set of magic markers..they work well on metal,I have used them as a fill paint for my golf clubs and also my 870

1 full 2 improved modified 3 mod 4 improved cylinder. Hope this helps. If you want to marks them you can get an acid etch kit or use an electric scribing tool and wipe with white paint. Nothing else will stand up to the solvents.
Use your finger nail to count the notches.

Extended ones are marked real well...you pay for them....
Other than that...Put em in, and don't take em out...

In reality, does it really matter?
Not that much, unless your a really good shot...

it matters,
you will chop teal into pieces if you shoot um with a full choke.
Greater Canada Geese will honk and fly away if you shoot at um with a skeet/open choke.
I also mark the plastic containers I keep the choke in, empty one is in the gun.

Not only that...not really supposed to shoot steel out of a full choke. Good way to get a bulged barrel...

 

And, it gets more complicated if your gun has two barrels.

Not to mention Extra full, Skeet 1, Skeet 2, Cylinder and all the more standard chokes.

 

I have room for a couple of chokes and the choke wrench in my floating gun case and I want to put them in a small plastic case so pulling them out of the marked containers just doesn't work. Now add in my 46 year old eyes and your tipical waterfowl conditions and well... you get the picture. Just started to pattern the factory chokes so I'm not ready to make the jump to anything aftermarket yet. Thanks for the replies all. Might have to get a pair of those dollar store eye glasses :shock: / or try Bons idea.

That's probably the easiest fix.

You're right on track though. My eye doctor told me that most people need glasses at around 40 and admit it to themselves at 45.
