I Would Like Some Input On Picking A Pup? You Found The Right Combo Of Ped. And Clearances What Do You Look For When Your Standing Thier Looking At A Litter Or Just 2 Or 3. And How Does It Work When The Breeder Is To Far Away To Travel Their How Do They Pick What One You Get.

Pick the pedigree and breeder. Then let the breeder pick if you're shipping it home.

Otherwise if you're picking,,,, close your eyes and grab. Another perenial favorite is let the puppy pick you.

My breeder picked my pup I told them I was looking for a pup that I could train to hunt and run Hunt Test. I drove over and looked at the pups but the breeder picked my little girl for me so far so good.

What Do You Look For ......?
You don't!
You have settle on the breeding and breeder, you ask for one sex or the other, maybe color in some situations then you close your eyes and pick.

Having the breeder pick after you telling them your desires for the puppy is probably the best method since they have seen these pups day in and day out for weeks.

I had pick and was anticipating getting a female. At the last minute- I bowed out of wanting to fly in to pick my pup and asked the breeder to choose. Both the breeder and stud dog owner locked on to a male in the litter. Gender wasn't a factor for me and I had the pup shipped to me. No regrets! I got what I asked for! :)

If the pedigree is solid and you are dealing with a knowledgable breeder-let them choose. They know better than anyone after spending so much time with the pups.

I wont Kevin I brought her out to a training day with the HRC club around here she had fun got alot of attention and just check things out. She get a few paint rollers now and again she is doing good for seven weeks today.

Good deal, i have a friend with a 5 month old BLM. so you two wont be that far from each other in training.

By the way, he took the opinions of many people to pick his pup (pick of the litter), and boy does he have a hell of a dog so for!

I like to take the one no one else wants. Some pretty great dogs have been the leftovers.....

The best dogs I ever owned or loved were either given to me... or was 15 week old leftover that no one wanted, or better yet one that was the runt that damn near died... That runt was the only FC in that litter...

Give me what no one wants on a good litter anyday....

I got the last one from the litter I picked. Nice pup. Definately look to the breeder for advice.

As a breeder, I am on the other end of this question. I usually ask clients what they want in a pup, then choose for them.
I have had people come to look at a litter, then take hours to choose a pup. I have had people from far away choose from photos based on what they are looking for in a pup. This is another form of letting the breeder choose for you.
Breeders know their puppies. We live with a litter for 8 weeks and learn what each each puppy is all about.
So pick what you want in a pup, find a breeder, and listen to your breeder.
They won't steer you wrong.

I had a breeder pick for me because I wasnt able to pick my pup up till 10 weeks old. Some pups were picked before my turn came up. The pup I got, picked by the breeder is the best dog in my kennel. She told me when I picked him up that he was her pick all along, " nobody wanted him because he had a funny looking coat " He has been outstanding in his ht carrer and has accomplished more than any of his littermates.

My Em was the runt of the litter and she is a dynamo, a retrieving machine, full of desire and go power. She just had a breeding, her first at 3 yo and we are keeping the runt again, which at 12 weeks is turning into a non stop retrieveing machine also, never gives up. The theory behind taking the runt is that they have to fight harder for the spicket the first few weeks of their live, and continue fighting harder throughout their lives. Bud

Take a look at her with first bird at 7 weeks
