What Do You Think of the New RFTN Format?

Better, Worse, or the Same?

Better!! Hands down.

JS

(change is good ;-) )

I don't have it either.

I'm sure it will be fine. more of a magazine type like Retriever Journal and Hunting Retriever, I am thinking. Photos and advertising should be higher quality, since slick paper affords better quality prints.

Better.

cover photo is awesome!

The new format is a big improvement and the publication now looks professional.

Why would they dropped the FT from the RFTN, with it now being just RN? Could it be that they are trying to appeal to more readers and the FT part is just not as important anymore? Seems to me that there is more editorial in this issue about Field Trials, so why drop it from the name?

Since it is owned by both the National and National Amateur clubs, two organizations which sole purpose is Field Trials, it just doesn't make sense.

They have been answering the phone "Retriever News" for several years now.

I imagine that they are trying to:

1) Simplify
2) Reach a broader audience

That's like when I call the Law Firm that does some work for me that has five names in it but when the receptionist answers the phone she says, "Law Office".

As we both stated in our post, must be they are trying to increase readership. Just hope they don't forget who brought them to the dance and they don't add a Labradoodle section to appeal to that interest as well!

I received the newly formatted and renamed "Retriever News" yesterday and must confess that I am not impressed. Part of it is my aversion to change, but mostly everything is physically smaller. The pictures are smaller to the point of being more difficult to make out the dog, Seems like there is more "fluff" articles that seem like infomercials. The field trial and hunt test photos are together on the same page and, as I said before, are smaller. Did I mention that everything seems smaller? :)

After writing the above, I did a side-by-side comparison of last month's RFTN and the new RN...some things are smaller (e.g. results and photos), and others (advertisements) have remained the same. Overall, there seems to be less "white space"
