I think it degrades the business some. Frankly both companies have been very classy and held themselves to high standards in their business and customer service arena. To be serious for a moment, this is not a joke about you Shayne and your past failed attempts to score with a hotel clerk, this is about one of the finest run businesses in this market. You now have a competitor out there and your shirts and slogans should reflect what made both companies and now one merged company the leader and market share holder. Put together a marketing campaign that focuses on that, and then provide shirts that you'd be proud to see your grandmother wear and 8 year old little girls at HT's/FT's wear and then you'll have something to be proud of.

To some point I do agree with Paul post, but at the same time using the cheap n' easy on the shirt will cause a whole lot of people to stop and read it. There are a lot of promotional shirts out there and most people don't even bother to read them. With something like that its eye catching and people will notice it and read it. Look at a company like godaddy. Most of their commercials etc do push the envelope but everyone knows who they are. I think it all depends on what you are going for. If you want the shirts noticed by a large number of people I think your right on with them. I am sure though that to some degree it will offend some people out there though. Its comes down to where the trade off is between getting the shirts noticed and read vs people it might offend.

I absolutely see /paul and Dan's point, absolutely! The difficultly in coming up with catchy slogans is you have no control of the mood/mindset of the potential readers of the slogan. And everything depends on who may be wearing the garment with the slogan. A perfect example is a baking contest that was sponsored in part by Easy Off Oven Cleaner. Participants in the contest were given aprons with all of the sponsors listed but Easy Off was on top in large text. Now using your standard American male (/paul) as an example. Had he been there and looked upon the crowd, as his gaze fell on the Grandmothers and 8 year olds he would think "I'm at a baking contest" and then if by chance his gaze then fell upon the twenty something hottie with the same apron "Easy Off" His thoughts may in fact drift elsewhere. The slogan writer has no control of this. But tries to use it to the best advantage. Now just last week I bought 2 cap lights from dogs Afield. You know those little flashlights that clip on the bill of your cap? It was very easy, did it on line and they were CHEAP!!!! I paid $11 and change apiece and other catalogs list them for $15ish. Same with Entry Express, what can I say? Cheap and easy works. And Mr. Day I intend no disrespect, I recommend your company to everyone needing training supplies.

I like the change in color from blue background to black. The "always available" is not so true. I called Dogs Afield to order a white handlers jacket for a Christmas present and was told they were out of stock in white. They had black but the white were on back order and did not know when they were getting them in.

I agree with this... You just need to decide the image you want for your company. Is it time to grow up, maybe? Or can you continue with the frat boy gone wild persona?

Think about who your market is. Maybe make TWO versions -- one for adults and one for the family....

Check with your partners? I think the majority of HT/FT folks would NOT wear the shirt, BUT that does NOT mean that it won't get you the publicity you want!

And, really, I would focus marketing, esp for dogs afield, at a different market than FT/HT because I would bet you already have that market (still need to take care of it, but I would take that shirt and market to hunters or a different segment)...

I know EE needs to "stay out there", but I think you're still a monopoly even tho there's competition in town... :)

I disagree with that, i think the VAST majority would not have any problem with it and find it clever or humorous. Even EE Stacey thought it was funny (coughBradyBunchcough). However, the minority is often the loudest and i just want to do a good job for the game and not cause controversy - especially when there's a very very small group who would like nothing more than that.

Honestly, the whole idea of sending shirts was because of all the trials i've attended where people are looking for white for throwers or gunners. I see a problem, i think - how can we help... if we can help, and maybe get some publicity out of it - then it's a win/win. If just one person is offended, then it's probably not worth it because that is clearly not our intention.

Plain ol' Dogs Afield/EE t-shirts on the way regards,

Shayne

That's not what I'm saying... "We" here on the online community are a TINY part of the entire playing field of hunt tests and field trials. There are only a very very few people from my area that make an appearance on this board (or otherwise online) or have any interest in it. The people on here who love it are the ones who are outpoken, a little wild and loud ON AVERAGE.

There are lots of conservative people at tests on the weekends and I think there are more people than you think that wouldn't like the idea behind the shirt. They wouldn't necessarily be OFFENDED by it... It just wouldn't be something they'd want to wear.

I think the idea is GREAT. It's just that reference to sex jokes isn't everyone's cup of tea.

I'm NOT knocking what you're doing, heck I contributed a line! I'm just saying that AS A BUSINESS you have to look at your TOTAL market and not just the fun-loving, rowdy bunch you're used to hanging out with...

How about something like...

"official outfitter of the retriever world"... or something that sounds like what they do for the olympics or other sports?

"birdboy uniforms courtesy of"...

"field staff uniforms (so it encompasses everyone) courtesy of"

And then come up with a way to make that cheesy if you want...

just another thought. I think your original idea is funny... but I agree that you need to consider if it's the image you want to say... Otherwise, you should rename it "big johnsons afield" or something... Do they still make those t-shirts???
