I have a dog that has developed an allergy to something (haven't figured it out yet.) He is 6 years and has always been fine. This came on pretty sudden. In the meantime I want to make him as comfortable as possible. I have some soothing shampoo from the vet but it's just something off the shelf they sell and it doesn't seem to be working very well. If you have experience with a dog that has sensitive skin or allergies, what would you recommend? How available is it? Thanks for all suggestions!

Isle of Dogs, Evening Primrose Oil Shampoo. Expensive but good. Search the internet for it.

There is a shampoo (shampoo, conditioner, etc) called Espana. We use the medicated on dogs with allergies at work. We also use either Aloe or Neem. All three work well. The stuff from the vet is kind of a rip off according to the groomers.

I am a professional pet groomer and LOVE Eqyss brand shampoo. Micro Teck is their medicated line and it works great. Very gentle to use often. I use it on my own allergic golden and it really soothes her skin.

It feels really good on my dry cracked skin also.....So I know it helps their skin. DO NOT dilute the shampoo ahead of time. I always dilute shampoo before applying...but if this stuff sits in a bottle with water it turns into Jello. werid. But its great.

They have Shampoo

Try Orvus. We had good luck with this when my daughter was showing her wire fox terrier. A Procter & Gamble product, non-allergic, reasonable priced and a tub will last for years. ORVUS SHAMPOO

Over the years i have tried numerous types of shampoo for the cheapest to the most expensive and hands down ORVUS is the best. It leaves your horse with the best shine and softest coat.

Use it for anything!
Such a versatile cleanser. Use it for blankets, saddle pads, pets, buckets etc! Easy to use. Perfect for spring bathing lots of horses. A little goes a long way. Even helps to whiten and remove stains on light horses.

Clean as a whistle!
Love how orvis cleans and rinses away easily. Great on my horse who has very sensitive skin.

Orvus Shampoo is fabulous
Because its concentrated, a little of the Orvus Shampoo goes a long way. It does a great job and rinses thoroughly. Highly recommend it.

I found a product that works great. It is made by DAVIS VETERINARY PRODUCTS. It is MAXIMUM CHLORHEXIDINE SHAMPOO 4%. I have tried some of the vet crap and it never worked. Found this and after 2 baths in a week, it was cleared up. it helps with any moderate to severe conditions associated with bacteria and a wide range of microorganisms. My dog is fine now and has been for 2 years, but I still use it because it is still gentle for her coat. I get mine by mail order from JEFFERS PETS.com

How often are you giving baths? I may give one if a dog has an allergy breakout, but other than that, I don't give them becuase the baths will make more of problem. Are you giving any benedryl?
