Anyone else notice the discrepancies in the RFTN Performance summaries that just came out?? I have found several dogs that were listed with points but 0 times placed. Does not make sense or add up not all but I have found several For example there is one dog in the Amateur listing that had 8 starts, 1 First place, listed as having 8 points in 2015 but then says 0 times placed. Makes me wonder how many else are wrong. I go thru these and see what sires have offspring that do well in a percentage of trials started.

Anyone else notice that? I wonder if they will re-print to fix mistakes.

They may, but they may also charge you a fee ;)

The summary issue is the worst ever. Mistakes all through the whole issue...

Example:

Dog entered in 4 trials. 1 win. 5 points 10 places. 0 jams. Huh??

Many, many examples just like that. Ridiculous. They should reprint the issue with corrected stats.

There scientific facts behind this maybe.
Daddy used to say the speed of sound is faster than the speed of light because you may look smart standing there with your mouth shut but open it and the whole world knows.

This could apply to many of our politicians toddy and may apply to some of our posters here on RTF at times and that includes me.

Nate you must be looking at an old copy of RFTN magazine. That name was discontinued maybe 10 years ago. In an effort to report all retriever news it's now RN or Retriever News

The stats your looking at are likely derby stats and if you ll notice likely the dog aged out and didn't run in that qualifying period. So say the dog aged out and in Feb and didn't run any in that period the numbers still count.

The high point derby dog trophy along with the high point amateur and high point open dog recognition all are sponsored by Purina and they are not AKC awards. The people and groups you so often like to bash have for many decades tracked and have been the record keepers.

One must use this service with a bit of sensibility as many times those that squeal the loudest - well they squeal loudly

Sorry Dave, but no. I was looking at Amateur stats from the recently arrived Retriever News (RFTN is just faster to type) I happened to have last years on my desk and compared.
As I mentioned there were several amateur dogs in this years edition that had points but 0 times placed. That just cannot be right. I also checked to see if those Amateur dogs perhaps got points in the open run by an Amateur, but that was not the case. Last years summary has NO dogs listed with 0 placements.
It's some kind of a typo error.

Dave,
I am a stats nut. I have been analyzing the summary issue for years. I noticed this one was messed up on the online issue before the print issue hit my mailbox.

Unfortunately, the print issue is indentical. I can give you many examples that just don't make sense but here is one from a dog we all know. NFC Bullet

Am starts 4. 1st place 1. Total pts 2015 - 5. Total places 2015 -10 (huh?) Jams 3

The 10 has to be a 1, I get it. But this is an example of the problem...

Go to the second dog in the AM summary...

12 starts. 0 1st 2015. 6 pts 2015. 0 places 2015. 1 jam 2015 6 Total Points 2015.

Who knows what the dog really had except for the owner, Mr. Hurst. But these examples are everywhere...

What good is it to distibute that type of info is my question?

If Purina used this info, my dog Pepper who had 2 Derby points would have won the Purina Award going away....

Or how about the multiple dogs listed with zero places or wins in 2015 but have varying number of points in 2015? You can't get points without places or wins...

Yes Nate, it appears the majority of the errors (and there are MANY) are in the AM summary, but there are some in the Open too. Didn't even look at the derby.

I found over 125 dogs listed in the Am summary with zero places or wins in 2015... But had points for 2015.

Say what you will but thats the facts.

Do they have some one over there recording that doesn't understand points and places? We are supposed to believe that if they are paid $4.50 per entry more they will be correct? There are private websites that are doing a better job of record keeping for free. This whole situation reeks of ego plus incompetence.
