My brother, cousin and I are planning a road trip from Bakersfield Ca. to Peoria Il to pick up two pups. We plan on driving straight thru. Rest of the family thinks we are nuts, we just don't want to wait for the whole eight weeks. Also we have never seen that part of the country. Can't wait.

Just got back from Ten Bears on Sunday night. 18 hours round trip with a 4 year old that I am honored to call my son. 18 hours and the only complaint I got was when we were about 45 mins from home and he just said that it was a very long trip just to get a dog!

Have fun, enjoy the ride and I hope you have memories of the trip for years to come.

Throw the chains away unless you use them for weight--Interstates should be OK but if closed that's what it means--believe weather you see not what TV tells you-It's cold by some standards but OK for us- about 20 at 6am today and will get to 30 or so and sunny. I live about 10 MI from Exit 25 on I-90 in Wisc. if you get in a bind PM me or pm for my #

If you go the southern route I-40 to Oklahoma City and up I-44 to I-55 you will have less trouble and almost interstate all the way. I've made that trip in winter straight through from San Diego to Wisconsin and that's what was advised. I would not take I-70 or I-80. We did that trip in one shot.

Go the southern route, when I lived in Modesto the Sierra Mountains / California were the only place / state where tire chains were required and legal. Not sure nowadays. You won't need them. Warm clothes are the fashion in Peoria now. Who has pups in Peoria?

I live in central IL, the weather here is fine. There was actually more snow around St Louis than there is around Peoria. Neither has a lot so the roads won't be a big deal, therefore plan your route based on how many Cabellas stores can you pass through on way.

Mike and Anne have really good dogs, I'm sure you are getting a really sound, well bred dog that you will enjoy for a long time.

Nothing wrong with I80........ ---

Been on all of them......

I don't like I70......

The spring migration is "ONE" -- here -- more ducks/geese than you shake a stick at - the snows are just starting to show up - the cranes are right behind them.....

Road trip was a success. Left home @ 6:40 pm on Tuesday from Bakersfield and arrived in St. Louis 29 hours later. We spent the day Thursday in St. Louis at the Arch, Busch Stadium and then took a tour the the Bud Factory. We met Anne at 6:30 pm Thursday evening and picked two pups, then left for home. We arrived home at Midnight on Friday. Hopefully the link below works for the pics. If not copy and paste in your browser.
