I live in the United States and we speak english here.
You haven't been to Washington DC lately, have you?

I've never used Rosetta Stone, but I'm interested in it. Want to learn Gaelic for the next time I go to Ireland and to brush up on my German. I get the sense that Rosetta Stone uses the same technique that my high school German teacher used, which resulted in me proficiency testing into 3d year German as a college freshman many years ago. He taught us to think in German. I believe that's what Rosetta Stone's technique is. I don't translate; I think and read in the language. My older sister and great aunt were both fluent (older sister was an exchange student in Germany and great aunt was first-generation American - I've still got relatives in MĂĽmlinggrumbach, Hesse). That helped me immensely, but sister passed in 1974 and great aunt in 1978, so I've lost much. If you don't use it, you lose it.

Want to learn Afrikaans and Lakota, too. My youngest sister is fluent in Afrikaans (another exchange student), but Rosetta Stone doesn't offer those.

I started learning Japanese and took a couple of continuing ed courses at the local community college. It's a tough language. My wife's company ended up getting a lot of work with a Japanese company and they bought her a copy of the Rosetta Stone. Since we've had a kid neither of us has kept up on it and I've forgotten most of what I learned. She did like the program though.

.

Nope, I went there one time back probably 25 years ago and did not really enjoy it. No reason to go back and there are a bunch of idiots that live and work there.

I just don't see me going out of the country except back home to Canada so why would I want to learn another language.

correct - no translation. just through 3 lessons and i really like it. it does help to keep the google translator open in another window for a quick reference now and then, bot necessary at all.

I live in the United States and we speak english here. No need to know any other language. Do not see myself going to any other country any time soon.
well thats just great that you feel good about shutting out the rest of the world and prefer to narrow your horizons as opposed to broadening them.

i have to ask though - seeing as the lack of desire for continuing education is not exactly considered an admirable attribute why did you feel the need to publicize your lack of aspiration here?

Rosetta Stone looks great but expensive. A lot of Library systems have access to Mango Languages you can log on to for no charge with your library card and work at your own pace.

I highly recommend it!! {{insert url for MangoLanguages dot com here after 5 posts }}

Your home countrymen also speak French. Are they idiots too?
