Anyone out there had any experience with the dog silencer products on the market for shutting up neighbor dogs? If so, has anyone found one (or more) that really work? My own dogs aren't a problem - it's the neighbor dogs!

I tried one they had at Petsmart for $9.99 It is blue in color and did not work. My other neighbor behind me however went over to the people next door to me. They have two yappy Daschounds. They don't yap too much any more. He told them the one needed a kick in the butt and get them in the house right now. He did so promptly and we don't hear much from them!:) Wasted the money but... Good luck It is not an easy issue.

Ice cubes from a slingshot? ;)

On a more serious note, I had a co-worker with that problem. He wrote his neiighbor;

Dear Neighbor,

Bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bear bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark bark

for 4 pages...the neighbor got the idea and kept his noisemakers in the house.
Good luck...

I have had several people tell me the supersonic bird houses work to quiet dogs.....

I would talk with your neighbor first, amazingly most people do not realize just how much their dogs bark, be polite about it. If that doesn't work a good water hose nozzle does wonders and also standing on your back porch yelling "Shut up your <bleeping> dogs!" so the entire neighborhood can hear ya - about 11:30 at night is a great time to do this! ;)

I kind of like the ice cube and slingshot idea, too.

I used to discuss it directly, and then one day I phoned when one was out yapping at nothing for an hour straight. The gal answered and I asked her if she didn't HEAR her poor dog barking to get into the house? I was standing at the property line so the dogs' barking could be clearly heard on my phone too. That helped for that day. Then I found a .209 blank gun worked pretty good... probalby not if you are in the city however.

I have found some people just don't care.

We once lived in an unincorporated hamlet and had a neighbor with 22 **** hounds in his back yard. We, and others, went to the township trustees. They were not able to do much. They mostly want to plow roads and clear ditches, not deal with peoples roblems.

I now have a neighbor who always has a least one border collie that ends up barking most of every day. I have talked to him. He doesn't want to quiet his dogs because people will steal his stuff them. I asked him how he knew people were stealing stuff when the dogs barked all the time? He just looked at me with a confused look on his face.

I used to have a neighbor that got home from work at about 2am and let his 2 dogs out to bark for a couple of hours. I went over there in my pj's one night and he wouldn't answer the door (chicken ****). So I waited until I had to leave for work at 6am and went to his house and beat on the door until his dogs were raising 9 kinds of hell in the house. He never came to the door but he quit letting his dogs stay out and bark at 2am.

One of those box fans in your room going when you sleep covers a bunch of noise. I don't mind dogs barking during the day, I have dogs, we all have dogs, sometimes dogs bark. When it happens at night it sucks; we'd hope our neighbor would at least try to stop it. Making them aware of the situation could help, as they might be unaware of it and might try to do something. Sometimes when you live in a rural area, barking comes from several directions and can't be help; the fan helps me sleep at night ;).

I have discussed it with neighbors. They don't care - dogs bark. "It's the nature of the beast." Yes - dogs bark. Yes, my own dogs bark. BUT they don't bark just to bark. If they find something to bark at, go ahead and bark! But if it's unreasonable, I get them to shut the #$% up!
And it's the little ankle biters with their high pitched YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP that's the worst!
I do live in a rural area and unfortunately it's the closest neighbors who have the worst offenders.
Thanks for all the responses - the sonic birdhouse variety seems to have the best online reviews. May give it a try - could be worth it!
