I have been posting here (and other places) about a new puppy I had placed a deposit on.

I was just notified by my breeder that my puppy deal was called off and I'm getting refunded my puppy deposit in full. According to her, some breeders informed her of my postings on some dog web-based forums. I think it was on some other dog forum I had posted on lately.

I will have to start all over again from square one and shop for a new puppy from another source.

I probably should stay off ALL dog-related social media until my new puppy is finally secured.

I think you dodged a bullet.

You are probably right. I started to have some buyer's remorse about that particular deposit on that particular litter. Yesterday, I saw a real cute Golden Retriever bitch pictured on another dog forum and got jealous of the man who owned that "million-dollar" doll!! I think I will be much happier in the long run if I find a puppy with truly attractive parents in my eyes. I still need good health clearances as well. I might have to pay $3 grand or more for that dream "Canine Rolls Royce". I got $500 back from Good Dog but I had to eat $41.50 in Good Dog "fees". That and a wasted 350-mile automobile round trip to see the breeder and the litter and the mom in person.
Here in Iowa, it's really hard to find breeders listed with a litter from two beautiful parents with good health clearances. This is true for Golden Retrievers, Labradors and German Shepherds.

Best working, not best looking?

If you're set on a Golden, be patient. Someone here will find a good litter, probably more than one.

I have heard that even moderately successful field trial golden owners actually get kicked out of internet golden retriever groups!😉
Shirley you jest.

I must have a PRETTY dog and a HEALTHY dog for life be it a golden or otherwise. Dumping money into airfare is too rich for my blood. Not all of us here are rich. My biggest fault is that I have Rolls-Royce taste but a Ford Pinto budget. I do understand I can't order a dog custom made like a pizza. If I can find a Lab litter with pretty OFA-health-clearing parents fairly close to home I would consider hat as well. Be it Lab or Golden, I must have those soft sad lovable brown eyes.

I was curious as to why your posts would make the breeder want to refund your money, so I did a quick google and found that "other" dog forum you posted on. It was a bit surprising to read, why would you make a public post on the internet saying those things? The dog world is small, everyone pretty much knows everyone else so I'm not surprised that the breeder saw that and was offended.

Look at Old Oak Retriever in Southern MN, you can find them on Facebook and the web. I have a 15-month-old male from their male Ringo and mom Jackie. He's very trainable, loves the water, retrieving birds up to 150 yds, very healthy. The breeders own a very nice kennel; her husband is a professional trainer and breeds English labs. She handles the Golden side. Ringo is the stud dog from Italy they bought him and he's a titled International Field trial champion. Jackie the mom is working on her masters. They also have another female they breed and stud Ringo out. I picked my pup up at their kennel, meet the owners and both dogs. My pup was reasonability priced. He is the 8th Golden I have bought all out of AFC dogs.

I can only imagine why the breeder told him to take a hike, when he posted on GRF that the mother dog of his puppy looked run down but that the breeder was no looker herself! WOW Surprise! No puppy for you!

Hard to find a beautiful dog with brains and ability to hunt with plenty of prey drive. Are you wanting a working line?
