It was -12F here this morning with wind chill of about -20. I took the dogs out for about 30 min and had to come home to try and thaw pipes (no water this morning). Even with a coat, my pit bull mix was COLD. Her feet were hurting and she couldn't wait to get back into the car to go home. My avatar dog seems totally immune to the cold. This is the coldest it has been since I got him and he thought it was great. Rolling in the snow, running around like an idiot. My young golden loves this weather too, but she starts holding her paws up after 15-20 minutes.

When I got home tonight, it was about 10 degrees and both goldens spent about an hour outside playing. I spent the time hauling water out to the birds and being certain my pipes weren't going to freeze again.

Going to snow again on Wednesday. At least it will warm up to the 20's to do that. Going to feel tropical after this weekend.

Miriam,
Just about a year +/- one week and we be back in it. Wuz you out this a.m.? Snow squeeking cold and the same wicked big moon. I had never heard of the wolf moon. But it looked like you could touch it. I broke a dog box just setting it on the ground to shovel out the back of my truck!!! It was a sign, that I did not heed, saying stay home. No good work in the woods as plastic fitings shatter, like dog boxes. I yearn for MUD :)

Hey Ken-

We were out this morning, but not for long!! I have North Face boots, but Finn has bare feet. Not a good thing when it's -20 and the wind is blowing!!

We did get to the lake this afternoon for a bit though and it was just stunning.

I'm helping raise a Jack Russell pup for someone and she is not impressed by this weather. No "accidents' on my watch (not so much with the owner), but I feel badly for her having to air in this cold.

I'm beginning to think that alligators might be a fair trade for warm weather!!

Hi Miriam

Let's don't get carried away with a statement like that. This fellow was removed from a pond about the size of swimming pool just a few months ago.

Miriam, he actually was about 350 yards away from where you and Finn ran that nice land series in Boston last spring.

You can keep the gators... Soon it will be spring...Was out back yesterday and saw where an owl (most likely) picked up a rabbit. -16 here the other day squeaky snow and all.. remember these days when you're bitching about how damn hot and humid it is.. I hope it stops snowing long enough so I can go drill some holes in the ice. Jim

"Klondike Days" here in the Manistee National Forest.
Dogs don't seem to mind, we do hunker down around the woodstove at night.
One dog decided to take a swim in the river, the other can still find and point the occasional Grouse, on our winter walks. :)

56.5 here right now, but the 14 mph wind makes it feel like 45. Nice bright sun shine makes it look nice and if you stay out of the wind it is nice and brisk.

Eeeeew!!!I'm so glad I have yet to meet one of those lizards in person!!

On the way to the Lardy workshop, I was in Alabama for a couple days. Snowy and cold, but I walked Finn on a beach with signs warning of alligators. This was Feb., but I was constantly looking over my shoulder and every big lump in the sand I was sure was an alligator in hiding.

Jim-

Hope to see you again and also hope to get back to Boston at some point!!

:)
