Hey----New to forum and to training, lots of GREAT stuff on this sight. Currently am on first dog--7mo YLM-- Looking for some advise other than books and forums (although great info in themselves)!!!!---Any members from SW MN that I can look up for training advise?--Thanks.

I would second the Dakota HRC suggestion. Here is their website. Great people and great club:

http://www.dakotahrc.com/

There is also a field trial club in Sioux Falls. If you're just getting started with your first dog, the HRC would probably be your best bet though. Several people belong to both clubs. If you're close enough I would check it out.

It would be helpful if you specified something more specific than SW Minnesota.

There is a NAHRA club - The Four Points Retriever Club - that is located in MN .... just not too sure where. Contact Dan Hove at firestormlabs@aol.com.

The NAHRA website is www.nahranews.org

Welcome bud, good to have another Minnesotan here. SW MN doesnt have as many clubs as other areas of the state. These folks are right about Dakota HRC, good people. Congrats on your first dog, as far as advice goes you found the best resource of Pro/Am dogfolk there is. First things first, look up one of the "welcome newby" threads to understand a little bit about it. Anybody got a link for the guy? I'm off to my real job.

Welcome Trooper!

While the Northwest Iowa Retriever Club (AKC Hunt Test and Field Trials) holds its events near Webb (Spencer), IA - several members are located in SW Minnesota as well (Worthington, Fulda, Round Lake, Luverne, etc). The Little Sioux Ret Club based near Worthington combined with NW IA a few years back.. NOt sure where you are located?

In Sioux Falls there is Dakota HRC club as mentioned, Sioux Valley Ret Club (AKC Field Trial), and Sd Hunting Dog Club (AKC HT).

All of these clubs have experienced members who would be willing to help out!

Drop me an email at outdoorsmanhc@alliancecom.net or PM me here and I'd be glad to help you get some info!

Our club, Southern Minnesota Hunting Retriever Association, (SMHRA) is located out of Owatonna but have a few members from your area. I know they usually would be willing to give you a hand and one of them have a pretty decent water setup.

PM your info and I will get in touch with these guys and see if they wouldn't mind me giving out their information. We also train every weekend on our club grounds and have a number of informals coming up.

Thanks for all the replies-----I am currently living in Redwood Falls, MN (1 hour south of Willmar, 2 hrs east of Sioux Falls, 2 hrs west of W Metro)----So far been doing everything by myself--time to get with other great trainers!!!!

Shane, Trooper is a great freind of mine, I helped him get his SHR title, I'm sure you have met him or seen him at a hunt test. he was at marsh of meadows for sure, and your dakota hunt test.

I live in Montevideo.

I am new to this as well. I have a year old BLM at a trainer right now. I will get him back the end of April and want to do some local training. I have looked at some of the local (within 150 miles) clubs websites. Let me know and maybe we can make a roadtrip and check them out.

West Central Minnesota Retriever Club..
I know they are hosting a field trial June 3, that's all that I know about them. I was planning on attending because I have never seen one. I live close to Montevideo and was just in Redwood Falls yesterday.
